South Africa is a very dangerous but beautiful country. I would love to visit Cape Town one day.

Does this have anything to do with the genocide of the European minority living in South Africa?

Probably not but we'll see as the investigation transpires and more details are released.

Judging by the names of the suspects given in the article; the attackers were probably a combination of ethnic groups.

Many of the last names listed such as Van Rooi, Strydom and Opperman sound distinctly White or "Coloured" (large mixed race group who usually align themselves politically with whites).

It might be somehow connected to "corrective rape" which is what men in some countries do to lesbian women as a hate crime.

It would appear that this a case of unusual cooperation between the races: In a photo of 7 of the accused in court, 4 are black, and 3 are white (presumably Afrikaans, as were the victims) Is the person an the far right a woman? (Can't tell without enlarging the image.) One of those arrested was under age, so did not appear in court.

That is a woman on the right. At least from what I read, there was a woman arrested and I think it was for aiding an abetting the illegal actions.

Also from what I learned, Koos Strydom, 53 and Vincent Strydom, 29 are father and son.

    https://kormorant.co.za/37935/mooinooi-couple-raped-tortured-shot-brother/

"Koos Strydom, a panelbeater, had a workshop on the two women’s property and allegedly wanted to buy the property. His son Vincent and his girlfriend Maruschka, are also suspects in the case."

That must be Vincent's girlfriend on the end in the photo.

This was a hate crime. I definitely, definitely heard about this and there would be absolutely no such co-operation between blacks and Afrikaaners of working class. For reals Afrikaaners were the biggest driving force behind Apartheid and there is still HUGE antipathy between black and Afrikaaners. Yes English whites too but not so much. Working class Afrikaaners ten to be hella racist. To the nth degree. And blacks and coloureds have suffere a lot under their hands )and whips). Also, Afrikaaners and poor black people are the most homophobic groups in South Africa. Wow. People uniting due to a common hatred of literally totally innocent people. Wow.

Also there is no white genocide in SOuth Africa. White peolpe still live at the center of town )including the wonderful Cape Town) and blacks and coloureds (of which I am one) at the city extremities (I know because I live there. Not a white in sight. AT all). Whites are 9-10 percent of the people here. If there was a genocide they would all be dead by now. Wouldn't take more than a year two years max. So if there was one there would be no whites left very quickly. But they are still very loudly here so trust that there is not.

    ^^ Thanks for your input.

Its sad to see so much homophobia in South Africa. I used to think that South Africa was the only African country that widely accepted LGBT people but its sad this appears to not be the case.

Its crazy how such a beautiful country can have so much hatred and anger.

I'm sad to say, we are the most LGBT accepting country in Africa. This is nothing (not to diminish the abject pain and deaths of the victims). other countries in Africa are way worse. IN other African countries this couldn't have made the local newspaper, never mind national news television broadcasting

JTheM saidSome bigots would have you believe this kind of thing only happens in the Muslim world, although they (rightly) would never use this horrific incident against Blacks.

Funnily enough South Africa has a massive Muslim population and they really aren't that homophobic as a whole. I mean it still is somewhat scandalous and unacceptable in their Muslim communities, particularly th older generation but they would go so far as to keep it a secret if their kids are gay but there's no violence against LGBT people from Muslims here. In fact there are some expressly LGBT friendly Mosques in the country.
It's not really Islam, it's more of a cultural thing. They oppress women in the middle east because they want to, then use teacheings from the Qor'an as an excuse for their behaviour
