I permanently kicked alcohol for good on January 1, 2000. I wish that I would have done it 20 years sooner.

    Alcohol in Moderation

    Jack Daniels Whiskey

the good news coming from Australia's Monash University, where they found a daily shot of Jack could provide the same antioxidant benefits as the recommended intake of Vitamin C. When whiskey is stored in oak barrels to mature, it also absorbs compounds that sheath our body's healthy cells. Another whiskey substance — ellagic acid, which is found in fruits we eat — is said to help fight cancer by absorbing rogue cells, according to a 2005 conference in Glasgow, Scotland.

Scientists agree that drinking in moderation does the body good. But aside from red wine, actual medical professionals told us something surprising the hard stuff ain't so bad, either.

    Brandy

Just like whiskey, a shot can provide the same antioxidant benefits as your morning juice. This time, though, the benefits come from the process of distilling the alcohol using copper equipment. In turn, the higher the quality of brandy you're drinking, the better the health benefit.

    Gin

the tonic (in gin and tonics) has historically been used to treat malarial infections. Tonic contains quinine, an alkaloid that also has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. Much more effective solutions have been developed, but quinine (and tonic water) can still help in a pinch before proper medication can be administered

    Mixers

Lemon or lime juice (1/2 oz): 10 calories
    DaVinci or Torani's sugar-free syrups: 0

Skip the mixer altogether. Try ordering your favorite spirit or one of the new flavored liquors on the rocks. "Infused vodkas are very popular because they are not sweetened but infused with flavors, from jalapeno to peach, without adding any extra calories," says O'Neil.

My go-to drink is a vodka and seltzer with a twist of lime. The lime adds enough flavor to keep it from tasting like watered-down vodka, and I'm not adding any calories with the seltzer. — Philbo

Skinny Bitch is by far the healthiest you can drink in my opinion. Vodka and sparkling water with a twist of fresh lemon.

I drink. Screw the calories...that's what exercise is for!
