USCIS law specifically states that you must leave the country on or before the date your visa expires. That is known by everyone who obtains a visa.

In addition, if you are here legally and you want to extend your visa, you must LEAVE THE USA and apply for a new visa in your home country.

Is it a ridiculous system? Yes.

Has this law been on the books for decades? Yes.

Did Obama and the Democrat Congress in 2009-10 do anything to change the law? No.

Have millions of people abided by the law at great cost and inconvenience? Yes.

The USA kept its end of the bargain. It didn't deport him while he was here legally. Conversely, the USA expects people here on visas to keep up their end of the deal. This guy did not.

The deportation order was issued in 2009 (early in Obama's first term). But the order was never carried out.

A congressman intervened on the immigrant's behalf in 2013, which resulted in a 2-year stay of the deportation order. But 2013 was five years ago.

You might blame the Trump administration for actually carrying out the order issued by the Obama administration. But as the article points out...

More undocumented immigrants have been arrested under the Trump administration, while deportations have lagged behind the rates of the Obama administration.

The details are given here: https://www.cnn.com/2017/08/11/politics/trump-administration-deportations/index.html

From January to June of this year, ICE removed 105,178 undocumented immigrants from the country, of which 42%, or 43,808, were noncriminal.
In 2016 during the same time period, 121,170 undocumented immigrants were removed and 42% were noncriminal.

So, it seems this man's story is news - and people are crying over it - only because Trump is in office.

Well Obama didn't promise to champion mass deportations, its not consistent as to why people voted him.

He was a criminal, and criminals are not pillars of the community.
