Democratic state senators Frank Ciccone and Hanna Gallo have introduced a bill that would require a $20 fee and a written request from anyone who wants to view "sexual content and/or patently offensive material" on the Internet.

In order to get the material unblocked, Rhode Islanders will have to go through a series of steps, including making a request in writing that they want to be able to view the pornography or other "patently offensive material."

The person will then have to prove he or she is at least 18 years of age and then acknowledge that they received a "written warning regarding the potential danger of deactivating the digital blocking capability."

After those steps are satisfied, a one-time $20 fee is assessed to unblock the adult material.

Luckily, nothing bad can happen as a result of this. I mean, it's impossible that the list of people who watch Internet porn would be leaked and used to publicly humiliate and vilify people. Right?

That's just hilarious. Although there is I'm sure, some from Long Island who may not see the funny side.
Next the Fascist Left will be breaking down their doors at two in the morning.

Hey these blue democratic states have to find other sources of revenue so they dont go bankrupt. I am sure that Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, and New York will all follow suit with similar draconian laws. Hey this could be a very good law for the almost bankrupt red state of Kansas since all those narrow minded bible thumping screwballs deeply detest porn lol.

Democrats are responsible for this asinine idea? Is this a joke?

Wow. Talk about invasion of privacy. Not only do they want your personal information but they want money too.

You better be careful because the deep blue democratic state of Washington could decide to charge you $20 just for watching porn just to help balance their shaky budget.

    Democrats are true fascists.

Fascism: Centralized autocratic government, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition.

OK, now I'm beginning to regret starting my post with the word "Democratic". Yes, this bill was introduced by Democrats. But stupidity is completely bipartisan.

If it was Republicans, they probably would have tried to outlaw porn altogether - as they did a number of times when I lived in Texas.

Most likely these state senators are up for re-election soon - that's the way it always went in Texas. Someone would sponsor an anti-porn bill to be a big hero to his conservative constituency, and the rest of the state legislators would vote for it because no one wanted to be branded a smut peddler. Everyone knew the law would be ruled unconstitutional and get thrown out by the state supreme court - but that wouldn't happen until after the election.
