GwgTrunks saidBlack Flag, The Melvins (with and without Jello Biafra), Tad, Green River, Dead Kennedys, Bad Brains, and MDC.
Fast, energetic, hard, and loud music... without sacrificing amazing lyrics.
Seriously, this guy knows what's going on. Black Flag is one of the founders of hardcore. The later stuff with Rollins is superb. If you want to get into Black Flag I suggest Slip It In
. This album has more of a rock feel, but nonetheless it's aggressive and witty.
The Melvins. Hell yeah! I saw these guys three years ago in Des Moines with Big Business and Porn. The Melvins is slower, sludgier, rock. Generally referred to as "Stoner Metal" at times though I think they're trying to get away from that kind of stigma. I love listening to this kind of music when doing cardio. It drags on and gets kind of noisy with feedback. I'd go with the album A Senile Animal
. It's one of their newer albums, but it's great.
Dead Kennedys, Bad Brains, MDC. All older hardcore--fast and pissed off (well Bad Brains drops that vibe after awhile). These bands are political. Kennedys have a twisted surf rock feel to 'em.
I'm going to suggest:
Limp Wrist: Queercore. Pissed off gays getting some angst off their chest. I have one of their songs in my profile if you'd like to give a listen.
The Bronx: I guess this band doesn't pertain to the other ones mentioned, but it's great music for the gym. It has got a lot of energy. The subject matter is generally about crapped out love. I'd go with their first self-titled.
Iron Maiden: Old school British metal. Good stuff. Just about anything by these guys rule.
