Had a great swim this morning at my gym and was so happy to see a hot guy (just my type!) getting in at the same time. He even swam the same speed, so I made a game of it, letting him start a lap first, then I'd catch up with him, enjoy the view for a bit, pass him just a little so I could get in a short rest each 100-200yds and then let him get just ahead of me so I could start the 'chase' all over. I swam longer and harder than I would have otherwise, that's for sure.
I don't want to have sex with him but that was so enjoyable and I'd love to have a swimmer like that next to me every time I hit the pool. Hate to seem like a stalker but I'll be back at a similar time to try to catch him again sometime.
Anyone have any experience getting a regular workout bud this way? icon_smile.gif

No. When lap swimming I competed against my diver's wristwatch I wore. I timed my laps.

But my goal was never training for competition. Rather, it was knowing if I was improving, plateauing, or falling back. There's very little muscle & aerobic gain if you're just out there pleasure paddling.

You've gotta push your body against some challenge you've set. Mine was a consistent lap-time value I could evaluate objectively over a calendar period. For others it's pounds of lift, or running time over a fixed distance, or other measurable criteria.

I'm not sure if challenging yourself against another lap swimmer is a good strategy. Perhaps if you wanna meet him, find out if he's dating meterial, then OK. But maybe he's a competitive swimmer, and trying to match him is just gonna burn you out, make you look silly.

Same when you try to match the pace of other runners. But guess what? Some people are always gonna be faster than you are, unless you've got a wall full of medals, plaques and trophies at home. For fitness purposes you should develop your own goals, and forget what the other guys around you are doing.

Nothing wrong with your pleasant experience at the pool sharing a lane with a hot athletic hunk in a skimpy speedo. Nothing stalking about it! That is every gay male swimmers dream to share a lane with a sexy speedo clad dude. I wish that I was that fortunate when I used to swim because most of the time I ended up sharing a lane with some old overweight codger or some old woman who would swim a little than stop in the middle of the pool lane which was highly annoying because it interfered with my speed and stroke.

After a motorcycle accident at age 18 my doctor arranged my swimming at a local college indoor pool as part of my treatment. He decided swimming would be good therapy for me, and despite my not being a student on that campus he could get it approved because he also did duty there as a sports team physician.

I choose a convenient time, exited the locker room with my swim trunks, and immediately got yelled at. The men swam naked in 1967, during gender-segregated hours! So now I felt doubly self-concious when reentering suitless. And doing laps next to guys not in Speedos, but totally naked. And yeah, I got hard, and was stuck in the water trying to exhaust myself and getting chilled, until I lost it and could climb out.

At least one guy noticed my stiffy, and mentioned it to me. Part of a longer story I've written about before. Funny now, totally embarrassing and upsetting back then. A great introduction to adult lap swimming. icon_eek.gif
