Giving up things for lent

So I don't know if anyone gives anything up for lent or not. I was wondering if anyone here is giving up anything, or taking up anything for lent?

I'm not this year, but last year I became a vegetarian for lent. It was hard, but I got through it and felt really proud of myself.

My boyfriend said he was giving up sex this year for lent. I said I was giving up monogamy. That shut him up.

So is any one giving up anything or taking up a new good habit for lent? Or are we all just heathens? haha

My partner and I eat fish every Friday during lent. Besides that I don't know of anything else he is cutting back on. Definitely not sex!

I gave up red meat for Lent 9 years ago, became vegetarian after the month, and have been vegetarian since.

This year I gave up caffeinated beverages. Ugh.

My participation in Lent isn't really spiritual. I see it more as a reminder to be mindful about the choices I make and the reasons why. The last few weeks have been really stressful at work; my sleeping patterns have suffered, and I felt dependent on coffee lately. So I figured that would be an appropriate thing to abstain from for the next month.

I'm always careful to give up white meat on Fridays during Lent, because I think it's important to increase my iron intake at this time of year. It helps me prepare for chocolate digestion.

    pffft Lent.

I've gave up booze to train for the marathon, haven't had alcohol since New Years, won't have it until after the 4th May.

Gave it up for 9months in 2007 as well.

    Don;t miss it either.

Haven;t really watched TV in a year.

40 days? What kind of challenge is that!

Don't worry, if you go the whole time of Lent, I'll let you do dirty things to me as a reward

Since Oz is a protestant Country, and NOT a catholic one. I doesn't matter to me.

Last year I managed to stay off sweets and pizza throughout Lent... this year I'm trying to attempt it again, at least the no sweets bit... but they are such a big temptation!!! icon_razz.gif

Thanks must because they (the protestants) don't try to force it onto everyone, I've never noticed. But still, it doesn't matter to me.

Not a biblical practice, only Catholic tradition. That's not me...

I feel sad for the people who gave up meat for Lent and then wound up catching vegetarianism. icon_sad.gif

Even though I haven't been a practicing Catholic in many years, old habits die hard and I still give up things for Lent. This year its candy and pop. The best part about Lent though is being able to have McDonald's Filet-o-Fish sandwiches on Fridays and not feel guilty about all the fat because I'm eating them for God.

I'm giving up coffee. It's only 3 days into the season and I don't know if I'll make it 40 days.

It's a deal.. I'll make it..always do. Today someone gave me a Starbucks card as a gift.. things like that make it tough. But I'll hang in there.
