Most women believe only straight men have a strong muscular bodies, and they believe gays are weak, skinny, and wear girl clothes.

And you base this statement on what? I'm sorry, but every woman I know tends to think the exact opposite. They see a hot body and immediately question his sexuality.

Well, I find that it's both. Women I know believe Gay men pay more attention to their bodies and are very sexy, but still will run like little girls if someone scarry was to approach them. Of course, my friends still like to keep me around because they figure I could just scare an attacker away by acting the same way I have in my past relationships - any man is SCARED of a needy and overly-affectionate nutcase!

I've heard many women say or imply that if a guy is attractive, well hung, intelligent, successful, or sensitive he's gay. If I only had their optimism.

... and Um, like can anything be more beside the point?
    They are girls .....

I'll start to worry when a report comes out and the men say the same thing

Only the really stupid ones believe that. Granted, that's a lot of women.

But I think the brighter ones are pretty much clued in by now.

Well can't say that the females I hang with believe that.

At this years christmas party at a friends house, some chick bought a dude that was trashed and very grabby towards the other females there. My friends came and got me to ask me to kick him out. They bypassed asking any other str8 guy there. So iI ran him out without laying a hand on him. I wish I could have at least got a punch or kick in.

I take it as a compliment that I'm able to help break any stereotype about gays that have gone before.

I don't wear "cute" clothes either. Fight t-shirts kick ass. www.combatsports.com . check em out.

I live in a relatively large East Coast city, and here, even the straight men do talk about how the guys with the good bodies are often *not* straight. I think it's the folks that don't know a large enough sampling of openly gay or bi people that rely on stereotypes....that said, it is a growing stereotype here in my neck of the woods that all the gay guys have great bodies, which, as we all know, is not the truth.

That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Every straight woman I know clearly understands the correlation between hotness and gayness. Straight men are flabby pigs around these parts, and everyone knows it...

We hear mostly the oppostite. A lot of women around here wish that the gays were not gay so they could have a piece. Most gay men care about how they look and what shape they are in. Around here it is the st8 men that are out of shape. They may work hard but when they get home they sit their asses down. Here in my area most men that work during day expect that their wifes will keep the house together and keep on top of the home qualities. Around here the women are skinny and the men are putting on the pounds. Around here most gay's are not lazy. Gay men here are either farmboy's staying in shape or if they work in an office they are working out at home or at a gym. Don't see many girly gays around here.

I think that making an argument against a generalization by making another generalization is usually counterproductive.

I have to agree with the others here, that straight women in the US today tend to suspect a guy's gay if his body is too muscular & beautiful. They know that many straight "bubbas" tend to take very poor care of their appearance.

I do think, however, that straight women may cling to other mistaken stereotypes about gay men, mostly behavioral if not in terms of outward physical appearance. Not too long ago I struck up a conversation with a straight women at a popular gay bar and restaurant. She was a sales rep doing business with a company next door to the gay club, and had stopped in at noon for a sandwich at the bar where I was seated.

We made some small talk, and then she asked me if this was really a gay place, as she'd been told. I confirmed that, and she asked me if I was gay myself.

Again I said yes, and she expressed surprise. She thought my voice was too deep and masculine, my mannerisms nothing like a gay man has, so she assumed I was straight. I laughed and told her that image of gay men was all wrong.

I really can't say what most straight women believe about gay behavior, but I know that some have a really distorted view of us. Slanderous Republican and Christian fundamentalist propaganda doesn't help, either, perpetuating the misconceptions about us.

    I've often heard the opposite.

Perhaps if they're assessing physical strength in relation to a man's 's mannerisms (masculine = indicative of toughness, strength, etc?).

Among the (few) straight men I work with, I don't see much muscle.

Maybe it's by virtue of my profession (not very physical), but I can easily take these guys.

    OK, back to my bubble...

I wonder if there are some words missing from this forum topic. "Most Southern Baptist women ..." "Most women belonging to the John Birch Society ...".
