Another term that appears in so many profiles. What does "straight acting" mean to you. What do you want it to mean to me?

This topic has been covered in the forums at least 5 times.... but it's been a while.

It's just someone saying they're not "femmy," which they assume is a trait that other guys will go for.

Sometimes it's true, sometimes it's not. It is kind of a bad choice of words though. It makes it seem like there's something wrong with being "gay" acting.

Please. It does not mean you're acting. I've gotten tired of that little quip.

I'm not fond of the term straight acting, but like it or not it is fairly unambiguous and I think most people know what it means. A gay guy who does not have stereotypical gay mannerisms.

And now we start the discussion about what "stereotypical gay mannerisms" are... icon_mad.gif

But some people are delusional calling themselves straight acting. I met a guy once who described himself as straight acting in his profile (not on realjock). When I met him I felt like telling him I could see gay written across his forehead from across a football field.

It means that if you walk into a room no one knows your gay. I just say im straight but like guys cause im not acting and i am opposite of all the steriotypes. Only thing that makes me gay is that I would rather have a guy in my arms then a chick. Mostly because I cant stand chicks. Thats why all my friends are other straight guys.

Just a term, like "masculine". Both interchangable. Let's not get crazy nitpicking things. IMO

But you're not straight. By saying that you are, it's as if you were completely ashamed of being gay, and all the things that go along with it (negative stereotypes included).

    Let actions speak for themselves.

A "straight acting" individual is a man who, to the naked eye, appears to be a heterosexual.

The controversy, if any, comes from whether this is a natural disposition, or a show that you're putting on for everyone.

And the very common stereotype that gay men are feminine and straight men are masculine. We know this isn't the case. Gay men's mannerisms run the gamut from extremely feminine to extremely masculine. But I don't think society's perception of this will ever change.

At best, I think it's an inarticulate way of saying "masculine," and at worst an offensive way of saying "masculine."

What is "the straight acting"?? You are gay or straight. We are men. Gay men. So, the only difference is the person which you have sex and love with... Then, to have an "straight acting" would be something like "have sex with a woman??? Or suck a pussy?? OMG! What a dumb thing!

In Brazilian Portuguese acting can mean "atuando" (representing) or "agindo" (behaving).

It's funny because my language/culture has never created such expression. If you see dating profiles of Brazilian gay men, they may say "jeito de homem" (manly behavior), or the more literal "não sou afeminado" (I'm not effeminate). No one will say "ajo como hetero" (I'm straight acting). No one uses "hetero" (straight) to mean masculinity. We don't use straight-flattering words (even straight sounds too flattering, considering that in Brazil we just say "hetero")

Sure, we have a bunch of curse words for gay people (bicha, viado, baitola, marica, etc), but we don't seem to have this hetero-idolatry Anglophones seem to have in their vocabulary.

Now we can entertain our imagination wondering why Anglophones (or is it just Americans?) have to resort to such expression.

"Straight Acting" really does mean something. If a typical female of my culture were to hang around me - without talking specifically about my sexual tastes or attempting to engage in sexual activities with me - she would "most likely" think that I was a potential heterosexual mate.

Cultures tend to develop male and female patterns of behavior determined by how women compete with eachother for men and men compete for women.

So in some cultures men kiss on the cheek, or peck on the lips, or hold hands - these are more feminine in other cultures. There is no one-world definition of straight-acting.

Personally I like ancient romans concept of straight - its straight if you screw your male students or slaves or your fellow soldier when on campaign. As long as you bed a women and have kids - your manliness was secure.

I have had a few, I won't say 'many', people be completely floored when I tell them that I'm gay. (Generally when I say things like "My ex-boyfriend..." and "Damnnnn" when a cutie walks by.) And it bugs the HELL outta me.

I would love to have everyone just *know* that I'm gay without me having to tell them. It's such a curse to have to go and be like, "Oh, by the way, I'm gay...can you pass me a beer?" "Oh, really? I had no idea..." "I know, you were flirting with me, thanks."

Anyways, I'm not straight acting by conscious thought, just by design. Don't get me wrong, I love who I am. I really do. It'd be nice to live in a world where it wouldn't matter.

Of course, looking around my room, it does look like a straight bachelor lives here rather than a gay one! ;-)

I think you would have to be a real ignoramus to use "str8 Acting". Your being fake and acting like something your not. So that means if your "str8 acting" your really a fem in closed doors and especially in the bedroom, ridiculous.

To each's own but I don't acknowdedge "str8 Acting" men, but then again, there are so many men that say thier Masculine but they walk around with a purse and walk around with a teeny dog. I guess what ever makes you happy and most men on here and any other website are just trying to promote themselves to be alluring to others.
I prefer Masculine than "str8 Acting" anytime, but that's just me.

It means they are stupid and have not thought about what those words mean. The key word is acting, it denotes that they are not comfortable in their own skin and that many aspects of their personality act as a kind of armor from their crushing insecurities and fear of stigma. I believe that only someone of limited intelligence would choose to define themselves in such a way. "Straight Acting" is a toxic term used by the weak.

It means - I have issues and don't really like being gay but give me an Oscar because I'm fooling everyone including myself which I don't feel comfortable being so don't judge or hate me or call me a liar since I want to be just like a hetro and all I need is acceptance and love but not in a gay way though I'd like to touch you.

The straight acting as good and gay acting as bad is as stupid as saying 'that's so gay'.

carabin saidit means something douchy and judgmental.

It says more about the conventions of homosexuality than it does about the one saying it.

At one point if you weren't the skinny, effeminate limp-wrister you weren't welcome in gay clubs, so please stop spouting shit when someone has to correct everyone's dipship assumption about what a proper poof is.

If you're not flamboyant you're not a fag. For many generations being gay was a detestable and unaccepted thing in mainstream, so if you're not the 'in your face cross dressing lisporized screamer', you're blending in, you're 'hiding' your true self to save yourself the general loathing of your peers.

The drama surround the issue of someone saying they are 'straight acting' says a hell of a lot more about the insecurities and sense of entitlement of the gay click than it does of anything else. Know why? Because nobody else makes a fucking circus out of it!

lol what a fucking joke. I love how most think it's a sign of some personality failure on the part of the ignoble subject, not two words in a 'Describe yourself' field on a fitness website. How dare they be different! Toe the line! Fucking Beautiful.
