Cut? Or uncut?

This is a topic that I'm sure has been posted before, but I can't find it, so I thought I'd perhaps bring it up again!

Why do we have circumcision? I know there is new evidence out there that say that uncut men have a higher risk of contracting HIV (unless you wear a condom, which is kind of a no brainer) due to fluids chillin' under the foreskin, but before that was discovered, millions of baby boys have been cut. Why? Is America the only country where this is commonplace? Is it religious in origin? I doubt that Jewish customs have affected our Puritan-rooted society on such a grand scale, but I could be wrong.

Sorry for all the questions, they've been kicking around in my head for awhile. icon_smile.gif

What? You mean I'm supposed to clean under there?
Jeez! Why didn't someone say something!

If you are clean, then it's not an issue, if you are a pig, then thats a whole different issue.

    I love being uncut.

It started in the UK during the Victorian era, as it was believed that it would make young men want to masturbate less (and we all know how that turned out). Presumably this attitude was adopted by the US.

Instances of circumcision have gone down in Canada since the 1980's, as it is no longer covered under national health insurance, and must be paid for by the parents. As well, many parents are rejecting the notion of "well my father had it done, and I (the male parent, naturally) had it done, and I want my son to look like me."

I too am glad I dodged the knife.

Exactly Xpreso and briarhawk, the whole "one spoiled apple ruins the barrel" is pretty prevalent in regards to uncut guys! Some of my friends don't like uncut guys because "there's all that smegma that builds up." Yeah, I think most of us don't get smegma because we clean our junk every day.

Thanks for the info xanadude! That's really interesting stuff. Another guy forwarded me info that says that Dr. Kellogg (yeah, the cereal guy, I think this might be who you heard of, Yucha) was a total hygiene fanatic and was a major contributor to the circumcision trend turn of last century for better hygiene and "prevention" of masturbation. He proposed the same thing for girls (using carbonic acid on their clitoris, creep), though that wasn't really accepted like male circumcision was.

And yeah, I'm right there with you, BlackJock. Aaall the way. icon_biggrin.gif

Well circumcision has always been an act heavily dominated by religion. Even in christianity it is said that circumcision was a sign of a pact made between god and a group of people. They needed help and god told them if they had every single last male circumcized that he would aid them or something like that.

Besides religion, many civilizations practiced it believing that it would reduce promiscuity. Thats why in some nations not only do guys get the knife, but some chicks are held down and cut up with a broken bottle.

Some believe that its cleaner also.

Circumcision started with the Jewish religion when 'god asked Abraham to remove the foreskin from his penis' as well as follow other rules. Since Christianity and the Islamic faiths both derive from Judaism, many continued to carry out the practice since its mandatory for all jews to do so near birth (in a ceremony generally about 7 days after birth, called a bris).

After doing it for many many years, doctors long long ago stated that it did indeed prevent in obtaining infections. In modern medicine, this has been proven to be false, and being cut or uncut, makes no difference in infection susceptibility. As far as cleanliness goes, its very simple for a uncut guy to pull back the foreskin and clean the covered area.

I personally am cut, because i'm jewish, and havn't ever had a guy with an uncut one, but as long as its clean and looks alright, it shouldn't matter, its a penis, thats all, as long as it gets the job done ;)

Jews learned circumcision from the Egyptians so it is a really, really old North African ritual. Arabs also practiced it because of those same ancient roots. It had a revivial after WWII in this country because Jews vowed they would never be singled out again for persecution based on there genital status. This meant that instead of curtailing their male circumcision ritual they would forward policy to have non Jews circumcised. Ironically, it was a very sucessful policy in this country but had almost no effect in Europe. The Catholic church sees no reason why males should be circumsized.

I have done a lot of research on this and the only other part of the human body that has the same skin cells as the foreskin is the tongue. You have different cells on the top of your tongue as opposed to the bottom of your tongue. The foreskin does not have taste-buds, but there is an inner and outer cell type much like the tongue. Very sensitive cells along the edge of the tongue and along the edge of the foreskin. That thing under your tongue called the frenulum that attaches your tongue to the bottom of your mouth is almost identical to the frenulum found under the head of the penis. The frenulum is the most sensitive part of the penis. When you are circumcised most or all of the frenulum is removed.

I am sure it was once a hygiene issue to be circumcised but we live in a culture here in the US where we have better hygiene than almost any place in the world. Dr. OZ on the Oprah Show said there is a large decline in the number of circumcision in the US. So, I guess there will be a lot more foreskins in coming generations. (sorry, bad pun there) icon_smile.gif

Burninman, sorry to say, but unfortunately some of the statements in you're argument have no validity. Jew's occupied northern Africa, especially Egypt. The Egyptians learned the practice from the jews since they migrated into the land because of the lumber and gold trades since Egypt didn't have much lumber and the middle east (Mesopotamia) did, as taught by my anthropology class i took last semester.

And not to sound like an ass, but the complete statement about how after WWII jews wanted to forward the practice onto others is complete BS. As stated in my previous post, the practice was consistent throughout many years and in countries and cultures because Christianity (which is based upon the Jewish faith, and thus shared many of the same practices) spread throughout the world. Yes there are many who don't circumcise their males (like catholics) but WWII had nothing to do with further increase it's practice. Their genital status didn't give them away as being jewish during the holocaust, it didn't help them that they were circumcised, but that was not a determining factor. Again, my first post does a pretty good job explaining it's origin.

As for the skin, Skytran, I'm pretty sure, that the most sensitive part of the penis is the 'glans penis' and the reason for foreskin (like in other animals with their type of coverings) was to protect the area. The reason why women enjoy sex, is because of the stimulation of the clitoris, which comes from the same tissue as the glans penis as a fetus, hence making it the most sensitive.

The Frenulum is the part of the foreskin that connects to the glans penis, and yes is the site of where the circumcision is made but there isn't as much sensitivity there. The skin and tongue have some similarities in anatomy, both being stratified squamous epithelium, but there are still some differences (obviously taste buds, pores, sweat glands, keratin). I'll agree with you for the most part that you're frenulum linguae under the tongue, is very similar to the frenulum of the penis, but must say they are not the most sensitive part. I am really glad though that someone else actually knows something about the body, instead of those who think they do.

So to repeat myself from my original post, the reason as to why people preform circumcision is because of religious customs and has no more medical affiliation with preventing infection, its simply based on one's cultural views and is the parent's choice.

I am cut...I wasn't given the choice. My son however was left the way he was born...Canadians are finally waking up, and the vast majority of our young males do not go through this uneeded surgery

Circumcision is an ancient custom. Eqyptians did it. Wall paintings show the priestly class as cirumcised with their heads shaved. Whether the Jews picked up the custom when they were in captivity there and then gave it religious significance is debatable and I'm sure we will never know.

There was a debate in the early church as to whether the gentiles needed to be circumcised in order to join this new sect of Judiasm called Christians. St. Paul, who was a Roman citizen, said yes but St. Peter said no. Circumcision as a mark of your faith and sign of the covenant with God could be figurative as in "circumcision of the heart."

In this country, circumcision was used a method to prevent boys from maturbating. Mastubation was thought of a a cause of many illnesses including mental illness. Read the biography of Dr. Kellogg of the corn flake fame. Eventually, the hygiene argument came into play to bolster the reason. Probably because circumcision as a means to curtail masturbation proved a failure.

In the twentith century, more boys were being born in hospitals than at home and if a doctor suggested that a boy be circumcised because it would be cleaner, then that boy faced the consequences. Afterall, the doctor knows best and you don't question the doctor!!!

Dr. Spock advocated circumcision and most of the mothers of baby boomer boys considered his word to be gospel (no pun) and we of that generation faced the consequeces. Ironically, Dr. Spock changed his mind a the end of his career but too late for those boys and many of their progeny.

Also, many of the doughboys of WWI who went to Europe and left the farms for the first time contracted STDs and circumcision was advocated to prevent further spread.

Today, the biggest argument for circumcision is that a boy should look like his father. And if dad is cut, then son usually gets the wack, too. Many girls and women only know what a cut penis looks like from their babysitting days. When they see a natural penis, it looks different and weird to them and they prefer what they are used to seeing. So, naturally, they would prefer their sons to look "normal."

Breaking the cycle is difficult since it is an embarrassing subject. Many men who were circumcised as an infant say it doesn't matter to them and are happy. To admit otherwise may suggest that that man thinks too much about his penis or maybe even gay.

Unfortunately, circumcision is considered no big deal. When an expectant mother presents to the labor and delivery room ready to give birth, the nurse taking basic information casually asks "Circ?" There is no previous discussion with the parents, no education as to why it is done or should or shouldn't be done. So, again, if dad is cut, then usually baby boy is cut. Yet, thankfully, more people are being educated and hopefully this procedure as routine will someday end.

As for religious reasons for circumcision, even within the Jewish community there is now debate on whether it is necessary or not. Since I am not a Jew, I think it would be improper for me to opine. But I'm sure any Jew will tell you that there is more to being a Jew than having your foreskin removed. The true sign of faith is in what one does and what one holds in his heart and not the outward appearances. True for all of us, I would think.

Honestly, without getting into the whole debate about whether it should be done or not, oral with an uncut guy is just foul. No matter how clean it is (including straight out of the shower), it's still got that slime thing going on. I'm sure some guys like that but...ick.

Well I have been circumsized icon_lol.gif and that is what I prefer by choice. If I have any male children it will be done to them. I (personally) think it looks better but others can disagree.icon_rolleyes.gif
I have been with an uncut icon_redface.gif and, yeah, they can be kind of gross even right out of the shower.

Have to respond to the above quote in defense of uncut guys....I've never experienced a uncut guy to have sludge or slime "going on"...perhaps b/c they practiced good hygene and took care of themselves.

when i was growing up I used to watch porn where the Uncut was the "Cool thing to have" but it used to gross me out completely. Now since i have had encounters with ones that are uncut i dont think that it really matters as long as the 2 guys or whoever love each other. personally for me though, i would have to say that i like cut ones better. But that is just my opinion.

    Something to consider:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/3570223.stm

But wait... I'm just going to assume that everyone is smart enough to have safe sex!! So it doesn't matter.
