Yikes, just saw this movie and think it is on the level of Glitter. It was almost 3 hours long and horrible. Save your money or get drunk or stoned before seeing.

Have you read the graphic novel? I am curious if it is terrible on its own, but a fanboy circle jerk.

I liked it too. I'd never seen the comic, so I had nothing to compare to. I enjoyed that it didn't have a Hollywood ending. I read that an earlier attempt at the screenplay (under Fox) gave it a lighter ending.

Were you disappointed with the screenplay, sf, or was it the movie's pacing, the acting, the violence, the ambiguity, the plot holes? Just curious.

It was kind of boring. I know it had a different angle on the superhero side of things but was kind of one tone throughout the whole movie. Rent it.

LOL I had an inkling from the trailers that Dr Manhattan was not going to be wearing much, but at the same time I had no idea I was going to see that much dick.

Edit: haha I'm not exactly complaining, but really...swinging? Really? It was rather distracting when he was walking around.

It's right from the source material. In the comic, Manhattan's 'uniform' goes from a full black outfit, to briefs, to nothing. IMO it represents his detachment from humanity, not caring about nudity taboos.

Ok. That makes sense. I have to admit, I didn't read the graphic novel. They definitely made that progression (at least for him as a character, not necessarily in order of clothes) in the movie.

All in all, I say it was about a 7 out of ten. It might go up as I watch it again when it comes out on DVD at Blockbuster lol

The movie was okay. The graphics were good but i thought it was going to be a lot better. They should have never tried to compile the whole twelve-comic issue series into one movie "hince why it was three hours long". They did no justice for the comic.

on another note............how much blue penis can you see in one movie. icon_question.gif

just saw it tonight- it was loooong, and slow in parts, and doesn't explain how any of them aside from Dr. Manhattan got their 'powers' or superhuman abilities..... but it was pretty good. beautifully composed, deeply insightful and philosophic icon_smile.gif entertaining too- i liked it

Dude I totally agree. I couldn't believe seeing Dr. Manhattans' (animated or real) frontal shots."Never can get enough of Patrick Wilson ass shots" either, it made the 2hours and 48 minutes less tiresome. His ass is like solid gold... Honestly,I liked this movie,it had a dark comedic twist.

Couldn't line people up to go with me this weekend to see it, but will by next weekend.
I also just bought the moving comic DVD. It's over 5 hours long, and completely thorough with the source material, supposedly.

I liked it, BUT I knew how long it was going to be and had read the graphic novel so I knew what was going on. I could easily see how someone unfamiliar with the story would go 'WTF'?

Having said all that, the Watchmen story works a LOT better as a graphic novel for the way you can frame the images and develope the plot and characters slowly. Movies tend to be better for less complex plots and fewer characters. 'The Usual Suspects' being a notable exception maybe.

And yes, I guess a blue CGI dick is fine for R rating but real isn't icon_razz.gif

I think calling it a graphic novel is a lame excuse for poor writing when it isn't a graphic novel anymore. But it is not as bad as "The Day the Earth Stood Still" and they didn't rush thru the "story" like they do with the Harry Potter Book adaptations so its worth the ticket price. You won't be talking about it a week after you see it tho.
