Hey I was wondering if anyone had horses in south texas? I would really like to learn how to ride a horse and maybe get into rodeoing, I've always been kind of interested in learning the sport.

Well Guy,

there are no official rodeo schools in Texas, amazingly, but try these sites in OK and MO. You can go to a three day camp, inexpensively, and try your hand at all of it, supervised, and determine which rodeo events you are good at or have an interest in. They have a few campls coming up.

try calling the houston livestock and rodeo as well, hlsr.com, and ask for advise, you must get to the right person though.

Call some horse schools around your area for private rodeo lessons if they exist. But first check out the sites above. Then find someone who can train you locally on the specific tasks. If you want horse riding, you can get a good riding school for the knowledge and riding experience first, then proceed to rodeo specific events.

We did rodeo, at UT, no experience, it was fun, I did have a bull hoof print on by back for about 12 years as a momento. A brother of mine in CO. rides bulls, but he is crazy and his body shows it. Stick with the horse events.

I just had a conversation with a RJ member in PA who competes on horse events all year, he maybe able to recommend further info/resources.

Contact me and I will forward to him, if he is interested in assisting.

Regards
Good luck,

You can get in touch with the local chapter of the International Gay Rodeo (www.igra.com) perhaps they can put you in touch with someone local. Many state organizations have play days as they call them to learn abotu rodeos.
