THE St. Patrick's Day in NYC? It's always on the 17th, regardless of the day of the week (a Tuesday this year).

I'm part Irish, always used to march in the parade. And always would get roaring drunk and in big trouble in NYC Irish bars, often tossed out onto the sidewalk, by the other patrons if not by the management.

BTW, March 17th is also the day I officially came out gay, and will be celebrating my 14th anniversary next week. I call it my "second birthday." No parades in Fort Lauderdale, but the gay bars will have green beer & specials, and I'll get drunk & rowdy as usual. icon_twisted.gif

Second BTW: I celebrate on March 17th for my Irish heritage, plus now for my gay honor, too. Except that the NYC parade still doesn't permit gays, to my knowledge, so I won't watch it on TV, nor would I attend it if I were in Manhattan. There are the so-called Black Irish, and on Fifth Avenue next week you can also see the Black-Hearted Irish on parade.

The NY parade is always on the 17th except if it falls on a Sunday. We never march on a Sunday. I used to watch the gay Irish groups get arrested in the morning in front of the Library. They would be taken away in Paddy Wagons. Ironic, heh?

It's just an excuse to get drunk, and trash the citys.

I forgot that! I don't think I was ever in NYC when that happened, but you're right. The Church calendar moves the holy day to Monday the 18th.

Well, the biggest neighborhood parade (outside of Dublin) belongs to the Beverly-Morgan Park community (on the Southside of Chicago):

It is the Sunday before St. Patties day and is better than the "real" St. Patty's parade in Chicago.

As I have done for the last few years, go to hermosa beach and get shitfaced with friends at my best friends dad's work party. I mean all of the cougars need someone to drink with. This is always followed by drunken body surfing (would be way too drunk to get up on a board)... ahhh my favorite holiday, so happy it is here again.

noooo, i'll be out of town the 17th..i think the hoboken one is touted around here as ny's "real" celbration..but then again, hobo always finds an excuse to start drinking at 10am
