Frank Schaeffer who with his father helped establish the Religious Right Politics reversed direction a few years ago writing the book "Crazy for God" He was on DL Hughley recently with a few things to say about Rush and the Neocon movement:

In addition here was his blog open letter to who he calls Republican Traitors icon_eek.gif ........ Blistering!
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/frank-schaeffer/open-letter-to-the-republ_b_172822.htmlAfter Obama was elected, you Republican leaders had a unique last chance to send a patriotic message of unity to the world -- and to all Americans. You could have backed our president's economic recovery plan. Since we all know that half of our problem is one of lost confidence and perception, nothing would have done more to calm the markets and project resolve and confidence than if you had been big enough to take Obama's offered hand and had work with him -- even if you disagreed ideologically. You had the chance to put our country first. You utterly failed to rise to the occasion.

The worsening economic situation is your fault and your fault alone. The Republicans created this mess through 8 years of backing the worst president in our history and now, because you put partisan ideology ahead of the good of our country, you have blown your last chance to redeem yourselves. You deserve the banishment to the political wilderness that awaits all traitors.

You can see how passionate he gets... especially when talking about Rush.

We need people like him... on both sides of the politcal spectrum. Though he could do more outside of government.

I am pretty sure he is not republican anymore. He has written several books about the mess of the conservative crazies. He now blogs for the Huffington post and is pro gay as well as a Obama supporter. He kind of did a 180.

In a United States with a socialized police force, firefighting force, military, and transportation system, it's funny that NOW is the time you're choosing to put your foot down. I suggest you take your guns, leave civilization and carve out a cave in a national park...oh, wait, that's socialized too. Ah shit, you must be having a really bad century.

No matter how much you kick, scream, and be a complete drama queen about it, he's your president too, buttercup.

Well no, his profile claims he is from Belfast.

I don't get why all these furriners keep commenting on our politics. Why don't y'all shut the hell up?

He still needs to get over it

robbieall should not be commenting at all. He lives in a country whose politics and society are among the most "socially-conscious" (a euphemism for "socialism" in the minds of most conservatives) in Europe. Whether it is HIS Ian Paisley or HIS Ulster paramilitaries, many folks there, in HIS community would more easily pray at the altar of socialism than get stuck with the bill that capitalism would have had them pay. I suspect that he, too, is happy that he has the 'dole' to bail him out from the underemployment that decades of "socialism" have done to HIS country.
So, who is he to preach? Forget that he is a "furriner".. more likely, he's a hypocrite.

WOW! I really liked what Mr. Schaeffer had to say, but I'm not so sure that he has changed his beliefs, so much as the party(the republicans) that shared his beliefs in the beginning, has changed what they stand for. I guess it is all in the perception of "what moved". History and politics are all cyclical and he is of an age (like me) where you have seen the bigger part of a cycle.....interesting perspective. Things that make you say "HMMMM...!" icon_smile.gif

His dad was a very interesting theologian. And I think he really honors his dad's integrity by taking these stands.
