Hey guys. We need some help from the RJ community.

We are considering a move from Dallas, TX to Tampa, FL and wanted to get some feedback from you all on that area. Is there plenty to do there when you are not working (dining, entertainment, bars, etc)? What is the gay scene like there?

The fact that the beach is so close by is very appealing but we do not want to move to an area that does not have much to do.

We are flying out there to check it out the 27th through the 29th for the weekend. We will use that time to try to decide on the move but any feedback from you is greatly appreciated.

Thanks & we look forward to hearing from you.

    Chris & Ruben

Good Luck, but I would be hesitant to make a decision like that on only a weekend visit, unless you have been there a few times already.

I would look at the 3 neighborhoods that you might live in and then drive around them on the weekend, park, walk, visit the shops, you might also target a nice letter to a few RJ members who live there since not all read these forums daily. I would not make a decision on the bar scene as a major factor though, safe travels

Im assuming you guys are thinking of St Pete and not Tampa. I made quite a few trips down ther e- even staying over weekends for business and I can tell you St Pete is way more friendlier than Tampa. Plus the beach is closer in St Pete. I bet you guys would like the Kenwood neighborhood of St. Pete too. Pinellas County (St. Pete) is also more tolerant than Hillsborough County (Tampa).

somnething to consider. Florida currently has a very high unemployment rate and foreclosure rate on housing.

I would have to vote for the St. Pete side of the bay. But really St. Pete and Tampa are just one big urban sprawl mess. GO RAYS

I have to break from the other guys and say I like Tampa more that St. Pete. More specifically, South Tampa (south of Kennedy Blvd). I spent most of my life there and still go back every other month. Sometimes I think Tampa gets a little too big for it's britches (read: thinks it's Miami) but it's a great all around town with lots to do. Ybor City even has a gay section now with restaurants, bars and stores. It's come a long way since the time when I was coming out and went to my first gay bar...man, was I chicken shit!

I agree with trainerkp: definitely stay in South Tampa, maybe downtown.

For more information on Ybor city, check out http://www.gaybor.com/

Also, Outings & Adventures is a great way to meet people and to find things to do in the area: http://outingsandadventures.com/ ... I strongly recommend joining their e-mailing list.

    Good luck!

Yeah I have to say Ybor has come alive in the past two years for a gay community and that area in south Tampa I have cruised through and is nice.
