Either 'I Go" or during intermurals in college we would always use are own name in the thirds person as in "zach's"

I say, "I'll endeavor to intercept the ball if that sits OK with the rest of you...OK, OK?"

Usually by then someone has pushed me aside and returned the ball. I always get picked last.

In H20-polo, each quarter begins with a sprint in which the faster members of each team race toward the ball, which is placed at the half way point on the water by the referee. You can handle the ball with only one hand at a time.....so if I make any noise when I go for the ball - it is usually only a grunt - or something more profound like, "Outta the way mother-fucker!"

    'Mine!'

Our coach tried very hard to get us to call our own names so that everyone would know who we meant when we said, 'Mine!'

    Didn't work.

"I go" or "mine" is what I usually say and we encourage other players to do the same. Our Latino guys always say "yo"

Joking aside, it is really important to call the ball especially when it is coming in the middle of two players. There is nothing more discouraging to team spirit then seeing a ball hit the floor with no one even trying to dig it.

I say "Hey Ball this is Robby. We've had some great times and I'll always treasure what we had, but now there is someone else. It's not you, it's me. I find myself attracted attracted to off brand rugby balls. I know this is hurtful and out of the blue, but maybe someday you will come to understand and support my lifestyle choice.

When I'm playing outside hitter and I want a set during a broken play I usually just yell "Ho" to my setters. They used to get mad I was calling them a ho but now it's like a big joke and we all laugh.

In high school, we had to call out our position for volleyball. So I would scream BUMP if there was ever ambiguity, but I only played for 3 years.

In baseball (which I played for 12 years) we just said "mine" since some people thought the "got it" many would scream was some how a question being asked, "got it?"
