I was having a conversation with my bf about some of the songs recently remastered and remixed. He mentioned several the "Carpenters" songs.
Since he is older than I.. I can't remember much about the Carpenters, but
I do find it interesting some of the older songs that sound great... or some
Videos that have even been remixed.

But.. I have a friend that can't stand it. He likes the originals. Thoughts?

An example.. one of my favorite Madonna songs:

Some remixes are awesome, some suck. I've found that remixes can help engage a mixed crowd of people, in that if I played an entire set of underground music I'd the mainstream crowd, but I played all mainstream music I'd lose the underground crowd.

So, taking a hot hip hop acapella and throwing it on top of a big booming booty break keeps most people happy.

It depends on the execution and the person remixing. The mixer is interpreting the original to their flavor. So the mix or remix is going to be great, or it's gonna suck.

Then again, the original could suck and some person did a wonderful job to remake the piece.

    It really all depends.

Well, I don't like Madonna's earrings in that video. I remember when that video came out. She was great at controlling her popularity. She would shock everyone then the next have a quite song then the next would be another shock. She doesn't even need to do that anymore. It's why she has lasted so long.

I have no problem with remixes. If I like the song and it is a good remix I'm very happy. I'll have to look for the Carpenters stuff.

I don't like those 20 minute house/trance/mega dance mixes. Totally destroys the song.

I absolutely abhor mash-ups. Sorry, I'm pretty sure there's a lot of mash-up fans here. But Girltalk and others like him need to stop, and learn to make some real music. In case you don't know what a mash-up is..

I don't mind some remixes or re-interpretations, as long as it's done right. Here's an example of "Close To Me" by The Cure that was remixed in a non-offensive way.

I think mashups are equal as remixes. If done well, they are awesome. Sometimes they just don't work. I have a "Sweet Home Alabama/Hot in Here" mashup that is really awesome, actually.
