Why is is that if a 'straight' guy has sex with a guy he is then said to be gay.

But if a 'gay' guy has sex with a woman he is never then called straight.

Because we are obsessed with labels and passing judgment. Logic has no place in cultural norms.

Exactly. Our brains are designed to categorize. As much as we hate them, stereotypes exist because it's impossible for our brains to function without trying to group things.

Whenever someone around me talks about whether someone is gay, straight, or bi, I always answer, "Who cares?"

Human beings are just sexual, and our sexuality is expressed in a broad spectrum ... between men and women, short and tall, light and dark features, and even between being a very sexual person and being asexual.

All the colors of the rainbow, people. icon_smile.gif

Our brains are also set to "double standard".

If a "straight" man has sex with a guy,he is gay. What other reason is there for doing such a thing?

If a "gay" guy has sex with a woman, it's usually a mistake. Mind altering drugs, alcohol or just young and mixed up.

We do the strangest things for the strangest reasons. More often than not
it has little to do with our true sexual orientation.

I had sex with women for years when I was younger and still could if I needed to.Was I "straight"?. Yes,at least to the outside world I was trying to fool.

I think we are all attracted to both sexes, but when all is said and done,
    we prefer one.

I think so many people love the idea of being bisexual.

But true bisexuality is a very rare thing and if most bisexuals were totally honest with themselves,I'm sure they could be sexually satisfied with one or the other.

At the same time more men who have sex with other men need to start being more honest with themselves about their true sexuality.

And I know I'm going to hear about all the bi and gay animals God put on this earth. One fact.Mammals are very sexual and some do get off just because it feels good, with members of the same sex.At the same time they are and use "it" in very primative ways.

    It's simple -

Because being gay means the exsistence of the "attraction to the same sex" - if it exists then the person is gay. when you have sex with a woman it doesn't mean that you canceled your "attraction to the same sex", it can be revealed by having sex with a man but it can't be canceled, you keep it forever .. too simple.

EDIT : That's why Bi can be called gay, as long as you have this attraction then you are gay no matter what you do beside that or with who..

Because most gay men feel that they must deny the existence of Bi-sexuality.

And the reality is that "sexually" most humans are sexually attracted to both male and female -- it is more likely that that 20% (10% gay, 10% Strght) number is resereved for those who are only 100%, unequivicably sexually desiring of the same (homo-sexual) or opposite sex (hetro-sexual) with no room for the in-between.

and that 10% is inclusive of those who "tried" straight-sex, because they felt society dicates that they must and realized --
    "yuck, that ain't for me"
and those who were stoned outta their goard and slept their fag hag and woke up screaming and stating I"M GAY!!!! icon_biggrin.gif
...and having experienced the above doesn't make you straight it only helped prove you never were straight or bi.

Yes, I do feel a sexual attraction towards certain men. But the very thought of sucking cock or anal intercourse is personally revolting. I would only feel sick with disgust in visualising such acts. Yet I'm also attracted to a woman, married one, enjoy sex to the full and fathered three daughters.

So what does this make me?

Confused, but let me justify my response, do you find anal intercourse and fellatio revolting naturally or because you were conditioned to?

Yes. But she does not have a cock for me to suck, so that's all right then.

Well, I did say that I was attracted to some men. That is what this thread is about, isn't it? Surely, my hot list should testify. According to the opening post, I'm gay, becuase I have a fetish for men. If I'm classed as gay, then I have every right to be here. In my profile, under "Guys I would like to meet" I wrote that the main reason I'm here is to participate in forum discussions while allowing myself to grow old gracefully. Dating is certainly not on my agenda.
But if you see me as straight, then that's up to you. It is not a crime for a straight guy to be on RJ. I believe that there are some straight guys here. I am also aware that there are some here who dislikes me. I think McGay is one, Sedative is another. The reason is twofold. First, according to them, I'm homophobic. NOT TRUE! Then the other is that I'm a Creationist. That is true. Being a Creationist has stirred some debate here at RJ. It has made the forum much richer and diverse than had I remained silent. That is the reason I'm here.

Gay guys have sex with women?? When did this happen?? As we all have come to realize, sexuality has various degrees across a broad spectrum....but in order for us as a society to 'understand things,' we need to label/identify them....and then place that person or behavior in a specific category....that's just our society!

I was a virgin with both men and women when i came out of the closet. once i was completely comfortable with being gay, i decided to "experiment" and have sex with women. Occasionally, I still find myself attracted to women, and love making out with them, feeling breasts, smelling them, etc.

I don't consider myself bisexual though. I'm gay. But i imagine that there are quite a few straight guys who are the opposite of me. Guys who are completely comfortable with their heterosexuality but might want to experiment or sometimes find themselves attracted to other guys. This doesn't make them gay or bi, necessarily. At least I don't think it does.

I dont know how many gay men have sex with women, or why.... I guess if there is some attraction, then that's that.

As far as straight men sleeping with other men and being called gay.... well... doesn't that make some sense considering the amount of stigma that's attached to two men sleeping with each other?

When I see people who claim to be straight, but they want to do sexual stuff with other men... red flags start going up immediately....

I never really notice anyone objecting to a "label" they see as positive. Seems people get overly "philosophical" when they don't like the label. icon_rolleyes.gif
