So you've been the coach for three years, you're coming into the final year of your contract and your team is 2nd only to the Memphis Grizzlies for the worst record in the NBA and you get a contract extension?????

Rivers says he doesn't want to be a "lame duck" coach in the last year of a 4-year contract. Whatever happened to performing in the last year of your contract and EARNING a new one? It happens in baseball all the time.

I'm not saying Doc Rivers is the cause of the Celtics problems - there's plenty of blame to go around that organization. But to offer him an extension is almost as perplexing as the Knicks/Isiah Thomas marriage.

The NBA needs both the Knicks and the Celtics to be playoff teams and I don't see how extending Doc Rivers contract gives hope of better days to the Celtics fans. This organization deserves better.

Of course, Greg Oden or Kevin Durant would make the Celtics fans feel a whole lot better....
