Thinking about flying to NYC this summer for a vacation and thought maybe I'd go during Pride. On there website it says that it's basically a week-long event...June 20th-28th.

I've only ever been to 1 Pride, last year's San Francisco.

Question: if I can't come to NYC for the whole week, which days/part of the week would be best to come?

Be here for the END of the week which is the parade weekend. The parade is on Sunday...best spot for the parade is on Christopher Street in the Village, very crowded, but the most fun!! The bars celebrate till dawn..and you will need to also take off on Monday to recover!! All the bars are good, but Splash is hopping!!
    Happy Pride!

Personally, I'm no fan of the parade. It's not just a NYC thing. I think most gay pride parades are a pox on the gay community, but I digress. If you want to experience the parade, then you have to come towards the end of the week.

Regardless of when you come, be sure to bring a lot of cash. Figure approx. $100 per evening for admission into a bar and a club, since some bars will charge upwards of $40, while clubs can charge much, much more. And for drinks ... ugh ... easily $100 per night. The bars will charge outrageous fees to gain entrance, especially Splash, which definitely has not gotten better with time. Splash is more bridge and tunnel than ever before. I know few NYC guys that go there anymore, so don't let the patrons throw you.

If you've never been to NYC, do the West Village and Chelsea thing. There's always plenty of eye candy around. Hell's Kitchen has many bars to choose from, and they're frequented by more NYC-based guys, so they tend to be more social and fun (less drugs, less drama).

The NYC parade is EXCELLENT. I've been twice and I loved it.

I would go towards the end of the listed week - that's when the parade, parties, major events are on. Dance on the Pier should not be missed! icon_cool.gif

Pride is officially a whole month with a parade every weekend, in a different bourogh. the big manhattan pride parade is on the last sunday in june this year the 28th. This is the big event if you want to come in for pride. you have the parade and then the pier dance, which is a circuit party on a pier over the hudson and then usually either alegria or some other major dance party that goes all night long. There are pride event all month long by different organizations but unless you know someone in New York it is not something you are generally going to go to, because it is mostly private parties. I have never been to the rally or some of the other things. Parade day is what NY pride is all about.

It really all comes down to the main event, which is the Parade. Yeah there are a lot of parties going on the entire month, but if you're gonna be here... be here for the last weekend in June. DO expect NYC to be packed with gays... DO expect to be charged outrageous amounts of money for things AND most importantly... BRING ENOUGH LUBE AND CONDOMS and have tons of fun!!! icon_twisted.gif

Let's get one thing straight (in a gay way) ... you can have fun anywhere you go during Pride weekend as long as you're with good people, friends, etc.

However, you shouldn't be frequenting places that have outrageous covers, those are just for suckers. The best bars/lounges with the good crowds will be free, but yes some of the clubs will cost money.

Go to the Ritz on Friday, it's free and has the BEST music that you can dance your ass off to. However be prepared to be in a tight room packed with guys. You'll probably be taking off your shirt and tucking it into your shorts, it's so damn hot in there.
Splash is lame in general I think. It's an older crowd if you don't mind that, but it's just sort of washed up in my opinion. Not to mention overpriced.

Also, you can go to www.hx.com or www.nextmagazine.com to check out all the specific parties and events going on. The parade can be fun ifyou're into it and with a good group of guys.

    Enjoy!

I agree with a few posters here. Splash is an overrated, overpriced touristy place to go for Pride. All the guys who don't know the New York gay scene will be going there and to G Lounge and some of the bars on Christopher and Bleecker. Since the Village and Chelsea are basically taken over by the guys heading off to the Parade, you could try alot of places that are slightly off the beaten path (places like Tavern on Jane or Elmo that are not exclusively gay but cater to a mixed clientele). For lounging and clubbing, I would aim for Hell's Kitchen. It will be cheaper and less crowded.
