This site lists just about everything gay in South Florida:

    http://jumponmarkslist.com

If being within walking distance of the beach is important to you, then look for resorts that are on North Birch Road, or its cross streets. Most web sites include a map, or use MapQuest or Google Maps. You wanna be near Sebastian Street, which gives gay Sebastian Beach its name.

I wrote a gay resort guide for another online gay group, which I can email to you. Tips like phoning ahead to confirm how much of the grounds are clothing-optional, and whether women are allowed.

Believe it or not, because of nearby high-rises, some so-called clothing optional places only allow nudity in limited areas of their grounds, sometimes not even including the swimming pool. And some are not male-only. Which may or may not bother you, but you need to be aware of what you'll find.

I can also suggest some places that are OK, but hard for me to match your tastes to what they offer. And of course your budget is a factor. The more expensive places really do tend to be nicer.

Hope that helps, and feel free to email me as needed. And perhaps we can meet while you're here.

thanks, but that helps about as much as what i found online. does one resort have the reputation of having hot younger guys with a party atmosphere? thats my question. price and location are not important. thanks for you help!

I'll have to research that. My own personal observation (and I've been inside most of the 30-plus gay resorts/guest houses in FtL) is that the guests tend to be older, because younger guys either can't afford them, or don't care for that scene.

The mix of guests you'll find at any given time is always a crap shoot: sometimes younger, sometimes older, sometimes hunky, sometimes dumpy. Obviously more college-age will be there in March, but Spring Break season is passing. In April & May, the gay men who are free to vacation, with money to make it happen, tend to be older on average.

And very many are couples, not too many singles. Some couples do fool around, but I would be lying if I said it was like a singles convention. For that you'd do better at night at the gay bars in Wilton Manors.

I'll email you some entries from my blog "Gay Travel Advice & Tips."

Tomorrow???? Man, when you say "soon" you mean SOON!!! And no reservations?

Are you coming into Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood airport, and do you have a rental car? I may be available to shuttle you to your lodging if you're going without a rental. I'm only 7 miles from the airport. But I do have a reception to attend tomorrow at 6 PM.

OK, quick notice... check these out:

Vespa covered the ones I've heard of... I went to the Grand Resort last year for V-day... got a great massage there... the pool area is clothing optional and it seemed very nice. Talked to a few guest there and they loved it!! PLUS, its only a 10min drive to the gay bars and such...

When I was building my house here five years ago I stayed at them all. The Grand was hands down the best. Great hot tub late at night! Friends who come to town stay there - more younger than older guys.

Hey Redsun - I don't know what Jackson2NOLA experienced at Elysium - but my experience there was not good. The Elysium consists of two older motels joined together. This place was in need of major renovations and new furniture/bathrooms. Also not very clean and the desk staff can have a sharp tongue... just what you don't need on a vacation - right? This is one of the resorts that you have limitations with nudity at the pools due to condos and mega hotels (Trump & Hilton) looking down into the property. There are also "fence jumpers" at this hotel... and with the transients this town gets during season - this is not good.

As for the Blue Dolphin - also stayed there for one night. what a dump! You can swim and sun nude in half of the pool area - also due to a condo looking into the property. - I am not sure what The Grands rates are like, but I am sure they are all competitive. The Grand caters to a younger professional crowd. The place is spotless, granite/marbel baths, huge frameless showers - like staying at a decent resort. Probably the nicest and best mainatined of any gay resort I have stayed at.

The Schubert Resort- although not at the beach (pretty close though) was really nice. I stayed there quite a lot while my house was being built. It was more reasonable than The Grand (off beach). The Schubert always had good looking younger guys too.

Villa Venice, The Cheston House, Royal Palms and Flamingo cater to an older clientele / couples. There is also Orton Terrace and Inn Leather - both which I believe cater to a more leather/bear crowd.

My advice - regardless of where you stay - taxi it everywhere. There has been an increased police presence (always was high) - but even more so due to pedestrian fatalities / critical injuries over the past few months- on Wilton Drive and by the Ramrod.

I go to the Ramrod on Saturday nights - gets hopping after midnight. Sunday T-Dance at the Sea Monster also brings in a hot crowd. Living Room is where the younger jock crowd goes on Fridays.

    Have fun and be safe

RedSun - are u staying for a full week? I will be coming to FLL later in he week. Anyway, I forgot about the half pool at Dolphin. When I was there it was way too cold to think about swimming. But I recall the sgns and signing something to that effect. I didnt have a problem with their accomodations - except they needed to bring a few space heaters into the room cause wasnt heated!

This seems to be the most comprehensive topic about gay FTL resorts. Matt and I are planning to take an anniversary vacation down there next month.

From what has been said by some in this topic and a few other topics, I'm focusing on the Alhambra, The Grand and Villa Venice.
They are all in the same price range (the Schubert was about $30 more per night).
So why should I pick one over the other?

I love Fort Lauderdale and travel there at least once or twice a year for fun. The hotel where I stay is gay-owned, and is near the gay beach by one block. It's called the Alhambra Beach Resort and the owners, Ray and Matt are so amazing and hospitable, along with the manager, Ernesto.

    www.alhambrabeachresort.com

The prices are very decent and there is no reason to rent an expensive rental car. Taxis are abundant, and, once you get to know how to order a taxi without the usual hassle, you can find it's easy to get around without a car there.

The amount of things to do is endless, and there's no reason why a 4-5 day trip down there cannot be jam-packed with fun options - rain or shine.

    Best of luck!
