Today is a special day for me

Today March 24 is a very special day for me. It is my 1st anniversary since having gastric by pass surgery. This time last year I weighed over 330 pounds, wore size 50 pants and a 4x shirt. Today I weighed in at 174 pounds, am wearing size 34 pants and medium shirts, and size small gym shorts. What a year it has been! I go to the gym and workout daily, I am no longer diabetic(I was on 3 needles and 6 pills a day) and I no longer use the c-pap machine at night. Last week I saw the plastic surgeon about having some excess skin removed. He asked me how much more weight I wanted to loose. I said about 10 or 15 more pounds. He shook his head and said these words I thought I would never in my life hear.
"There is no more fat for you to loose." My eyes teared up, I have reached my goal. I will be having my plastic surgery done probally in June and he said he only needs to remove about 5-8 pounds of skin. Thats it.
I feel I have been given a second chance at life. In February 2006 I tried to commit suicide and almost suceeded. My brother found me on the kitchen floor at 1:30am with a note I had left on the kitchen table. I had injected myself with 15 syringes of insulin, swallowed a couple hadfulls of various pills and washed it all down with some nice flavored vodka. I almost did'nt make it. That was the turning point for me, I was at rock bottom and the only place to go was up. So guy's thats my story, I'm sorry if I bored you, but March 24 is my re-birthday and I'm soaring.

    Congratulations.

I could have only done it with all the good and supportive people that were, and continue to be behind me. I'm still a work in progress.

    Richbehr, that is awesome!!

Thank you so much for telling us your story. For those who found it boring, they don't matter. You're life and being happy is just as important as theirs.

Very glad to hear your brother found you and I hope you never feel the same depression as you did before the incident a year ago!

Keep up the good work and know we are proud of you! Happy anniversary! icon_biggrin.gif

A childhood friend had that procedure about the same time you did. She has had similarly stellar success. Couldn't believe how strong she was to go thru that....the recovery, the tiny food & drink portions....
Now, just like you, she feels like a million bucks and lives a fit, active life.
Congrat's Rich! You've got the world by the tail.

Wow, what an inspirational story! I guess it's true what they say: "Every passing second is another chance to turn it all around." We can always change who we are and what we are doing - finding the courage is the greatest challenge. Nice work, Rich! And nice name! ;o)

Sorry Rich, but I'm going to put a spanner in the works. This gastric bypass surgery (in my opinion) is totally unnecessary and I can not understand why any doctor would do such an operation. If you eat less, it does the same thing.

Saying that, I do not want to spoil your special day. I'm happy you did not succeed in your attempt to kill yourself. I'm happy you are happy, and healthy now. Good luck with the plastic surgery. Hope all goes well for you icon_smile.gif
