Is anyone here into fishing. I am looking for a new interest that dont cost a lot of money. Fishing seem kinda cool. My younger brother is into deep sea fishing, but I guess I start with something more basic like fishing by the river and pond. How about it guys!

Yep. Used to do it a lot. Just fishing along a river or something with old-fashioned actual worms and sometimes nets. Not fly fishing or anything that can remotely be considered a sport.

I didn't eat the fish I caught though, LOL. I brought them home and put them in my pond, or in some cases, the aquarium.

Me and my brothers. We like to go Catfish fishing for shits and giggles . All you need is pole and a case of beer , some Hot dogs and you are having a good time for very little. And if that is not your speed? There is the Southern favorite style of fishing called "noodling" . I personally love to Fly Fish. It is more of an art them anything. But an outfit can be Big bucks Depending on what you get . Or just get a bait caster rod 7' medium action with a line weight of 14 ponds and a good reel . And you have it all covered .

    good luckicon_biggrin.gif

I love it, but mostly freshwater fishing. Where I lived on the east coast there were a lot of creeks and inter-coastal waterways that were good for that. Have not gone fishing here on the west coast.

I did too. I was nervous.

The only thing more awesome than fishing for FUN is trapping squirrels, dunking them in water for a couple minutes, and then tossing them back into a tree after they are disoriented and out of breath. Fishing to eat them is logical but just for sport is weird to me.

Oh my God ! That HAS to be the funniest shit I have ever read this year. I and my brothers are definitely going to try that shit with the squirrels.

Big time into fly fishing here---tie all my own flies, too. There's something zen about being up to your hips in moving water, reading the currents, intuiting where the trout are and trying to perfectly present a fly that will catch their interest. Even when they're not biting, some of the streams I fish are so beautiful, it's just a gift being out in the midst of it all. icon_biggrin.gif

I love to fish! I routinely travel to Southern Wisconsin to fish, camp, boat. And once a year I take a trip to my grandparents cabin in Hayward (Northern WI) to fish for a week. I wouldn't call it an inexpensive sport unless you're willing to buy the Walmart kiddie rod/reel.

Its wonderful. Really enjoy fishing with a friend and getting away from it all for an afternoon in the middle of the summer.

Yep. Must admit since starting to landscaping my garden. It's something I have done little of. Have a wee BBQ going pulling fish out, scale em, and straight onto the BBQ. Yummy.

I used to love attaching a kite to the line and that taking the line out past the surf, you could end up just about pulling in anything.

I haven't in some time. I used to go all the time when I was younger. It's very relaxing and maybe I'll start it back up one day.

Only if he doesn't wea- oh, fishing. Haha aren't I coy. /g

I have to say I really enjoy fishing, but that may be a product of the alcohol. Went fishing for the first time a few years ago in the Graham Mountains in November. Had an absolute blast!
Got lines all tangled up as I reeled in my first fishy; skunk came into the camp and I thought it was a bear and had my hunting knife at the ready; Nick sat on a treble hook and Ben yanked it out with a pair of pliers, Nick's expression.. lulz; got hailed on the first day and the brandy was cold as ice and failed to produce the expected results; got car sick on the way down the mountain and Nick drove like a fucking madman. icon_lol.gif
    Ahh, the memories. icon_biggrin.gif

I got raped by our distributor to get my fishing pole in on time.

I'm truly surprised that nobody else commented on the Southern tradition of "noodling"; a favorite past time.

I already have the case of beer...Let's do it soon in Shingle Creek or Mosquito Lagoon. I'll even bring my Snoopy Pole ;)

Personally I think it would be awesome to learn fishing! I would have so much fun hanging out with a buddy on the lake, and when (if) we catch something to have a nice dinner by the shore, and then head to the tent for some more fun. icon_smile.gif
