I did my max pushups tonight...35. Yep, probably seems like a lot to some of you and not many to others...

Was wondering...How many pushups can the average guy do?

I just completed 3 sets of 35...prior to tonight my max reps was 30.

I'm proud of myself. Now I am ready for bed!

Goal for tomorrow: 3 sets of 36...

I don't like pushups. Couple weeks ago I wanted to see how many I could do. After 45 I was ready to drop dead. When I was younger, I used to do sixty pushups without much trouble but that was twenty years ago. The number of pushups you need to do for fitness depends on your age. Marines in boot camp are expected to 125 pushups nonstop and workup to 1000 a day. WOW

Not a big fan of doing pushups either....
Have found I don't have to do very many if I perform each rep really slowly...also helps to have the legs elevated.
    - can achieve muscle fatigue in just 15-20 pushups that way.

Still I seldom do 'em unless I have to skip my gym workout.

I may not be as huge as some of the guys on here, but I can do about 65 without stopping.

I do 'em during supersets on chest days. But I'll also do them sometimes in between cardio. I fatigue at about 50 on those days.

3 sets of 35 is great! I guess the question is not how many can you do, but how many can you do correctly.

30 is probably my max, and I have no idea if my form is correct or not.

My max is around 35-40 with good form. After that it gets gross.

I have seen a lot of people trying to get fit using the One Hundred Push-Ups program. It seems like a good challenge and I might try it when my current program runs out in three weeks.

Damn, I really have to thank my trainer then, because on chest day, throughout my workout, I throw in three sets of 50 push ups, and she is killer for form. Not bad for an old coot. icon_biggrin.gif

35 is great. Over a year ago Calson did a 100 pushup challenge and got a lot of us involved. It was right after his recovery I believe. Munching linked it.

    Quote from the challenge:
"No doubt some of you can already do 50 consecutive push ups, but let's face it, you're in a big minority. "
heh heh, wanna feel like you're super-fit? Just hang out at any mall in America.

The 35 pushups I can do are with good form. My brother-in-law was in the army and he is still in great shape. Only thing is...I could do them slower.

I usually finish up my weight lifting workouts with a set of pushups. Last night I did 50 pushups to fatigue.

Thanks for linking that, oh undead one. That's something I can do right from my own apartment, so it looks good to me. I'm going to try it.

I do 3 sets of push ups... 1 regular set with 45 reps, 1 set of decline push ups with 35 reps and 1 set of incline with about 30 reps. 6 mornings a week.
