Other gay characters you may have missed...

Now that Dumbledore has courageously stepped out the closet, perhaps it's time to look back and wonder which other characters in your favourite childrens' books were in fact gay.

Here's a few (mostly english) to get started:

Spot: Did you ever notice that Spot's "mom" and "dad" were *identical*. This is of course because they were lesbians.

The Famous Five by Enid Blyton: Although George was the cross-dressing Tomboy and Dick was called Dick, in fact Julian was the homosexual. IIRC he got spanked by Uncle Quentin in one book! Uncle Quentin may in fact have been one of those pervy old closet-jobs.

The Jolly Postman by Janet & Alan Ahlberg: "Jolly" is an appropriate euphemism.

Matilda by Roald Dahl: Miss honey was an introverted lesbian. Matlida was questioning her sexuality and hence developed telekinesis (it's a common side-effect)

Other Roald Dahl books: Willy Wonka was one of those irritating people who are really hetero but really *want* to be gay. "Willy" indeed. Puh-leeeeease! The witches were clearly a mature group of lesbians into bondage.

The adventures of Tom Sawyer: Well perhaps it was fairly explicit in the novel - (talking about 'initiations') Huck: "That's gay--that's mighty gay, Tom, I tell you." Tom: "Well, I bet it is!". Clearly Tom was confused.

The Iron Man by Ted Hughes: The iron man was gay. As in fact was the SpaceBatAngelDragon.

Grange Hill (TV): Statistically there must have been *some* gay characters. Tucker Jenkins at least was into BDSM... Mr Bronson was probably a paedophile.

Hollyoaks (TV): I love John Paul. And I hate Craig. But that Nancy, eh? and Ben? eh? eh?

    Your own speculations please...

I believe Ghepetto probably had tendecies...I mean come on, carve a son? Why not just knock up a chick and make one the old fashioned way? jeez!

And if the Emperor from the Emperor's New Clothing wasn't obviously a fag, then Ive completely lost my touch.

Robin Hood. Okay so he hung out in the woods with his merry men... You might mention Maid Marian as an arguement, but I believe according to research done by Stephen Lawhead, she's the latest addition to the patheon by at least 500 years...

Sherlock Holmes was hardcore into the party drugs...We all know the road that leads down...

Yes, it's pretty clear that Pinocchio started out to be a dildo, and he just kept going. Hence the whole "growing appendage" thing.

Never heard of much of Tim's list, I'm afraid. And the ONLY thing that I know about "teletubbies" is that they're infamously supposed to be gay.

It's kind of striking how The Hobbit and LOTR have pretty much all-male casts. A few token women, but for the most part it's boys only. In fact, I'm not sure that a single female dwarf appears anywhere! And there are no female wizards. Finally, let us not forget the visit to Bjorn and his Bear's den!

Actually only one of the Teletubbies, Tinky-winky, was gay. The others merely had phallic objects attached to their heads.

    How could we forget...

    bert_ernie.jpg

...there was a much more explicit one but I grew up on these two and couldn't bring myself to repost the pic. Search "bert ernie gay" on google images.

In Pokemon I think that James fro team rocket may be gay or heterosexual , and that guy Harley who is extremely gay .. it's actually good that there are gay characters in the anime at all whether if they are the hero's friends or rivals..

Holmes was also described as a misogynist. And didn't he start hanging out at a men's club, after Watson left him?

I'm pretty sure the creature on the bottom is male, as is Kermit. You do the math.

haha. Thanks for the laughs. Here's one from real life, Sean Avery, NY Rangers (that's as in hockey). Did you see the spread (we should be so lucky) on him in the NY Times 2 Sundays ago?

Don't forget about Marcy and Peppermint Patty. Marcy always called her "Sir" and Patty always wore her Birkenstocks.

Also Schroeder - quiet, artistic and no interest in Lucy.

If you ask me, Spongebob is as gay as a birthday cake, but the BBC says his creator denies it.

Parents, of course, are never in denial about the sexuality of their progeny.

Jesus Christ? Hung out with a bunch of guys who followed him around. Turned 30 without marriage or children? I mean if he wasn't hooking up with Mary Magdeline...then she could have been his hag.

Captain Planet was surely gay too.

Let's not forget Batman and Robin (aka... Bruce and Dick)...

Shazam (Captain Marvel)and his alter ego, Billy Batson... I mean really, he and Isis were on the same show and they never hooked up... shazam.jpg

Captain Kirk and Spock... Dr McCoy was an occasional third...

Witchie Poo (from H.R. Pufnstuf) was a repressed lesbian, forced into celibacy... page0_blog_entry96_1.jpg

In if you're into Anime... all the lead characters from Wolf's Rain... gay angst thick enough to cut with a knife and only one featured female, and she was really a plant... wr05.jpg
