cut cucumbers and cut grass -- make me think of summer

that distinctive smell of vinyl -- makes me think of toys I had as a kid (ie. the Big Jim Sports Camper)

the smell right before it rains or snows -- very relaxing

the smell of baking waffle cones in an ice cream store,

the smell of cool sea-breezes at the boardwalk on a summer night,

the smell of my own bed after not washing the sheets for a certain number of weeks (gross sounding, i know, but they smell like me and its comforting),

the smell of a fresh christmas tree in the house, along with oranges and cloves and cinnamon scented candles and baking cookies,

the smell of the charged air just before a huge storm- like everything is awake and opening up for the rain,

the smell of a hot stud after a workout,

the smell of great sex- you know what i'm talking about,

jasmine, honeysuckle, lavender

New car

Christmas Tree

Sharpie markers

Campfires

Bleach

The train at any amusement park - I guess burning coal? LOL!

Cotton candy being spun

I think for me, I associate "good" smells with "good" memories. That's why I tend to like "weird" smells. Then again, I'm not sure how markers and bleach work into that. I'm not a huffer - I swear.

I really love the smell of hair. Which is sort of strange.. But It's not like.. a creepy hair smelling fetish or anything. It's just that everyone's hair smells different to me, and hugging someone, or after kissing a boyfriend, you catch a wiff of whatever 'scent' they have, and hair has this.. nice smell to it. Idk.. like a personal "only those who I let close to me, get to know my smell" kind of deal.

In no particular order: fresh-mown grass; the leather interior of a new car; a naked man; opening a new can of ground coffee; the deep woods; a greenhouse in bloom; a real Christmas tree; fresh bed sheets; simmering chicken soup; a light summer rain; campground fires; any smells that bring flashbacks of my childhood. They all make me feel happy & content.

I love the smell of Burberry Touch Cologne!! Then again, I am a cologne fanatic & it changes from time to time...

I told my best friend if he wore that cologne anymore than he normally does, he can kiss his favourite shirt goodbye because I would RIP IT OFF of him! But to make the situation better, he knows I'm gay & totllay has no problem with it! Since I give him shit about his height, he makes the wisecracks about who's the hottest...he knows it too, with those tattoos, DAMN rugged good looks & built like a brick house! I wouldn't have it any other way.

acetophenone
phenol & creosols
Freshly laid road tar

I'm more in to a variety of subtle odors that waft through my space for a few seconds... not ones that hang around like bad company. Maybe wildflowers out in the field, basking under a bit of spring sunshine.

My dogs are avid collectors of foul stenches, living as we do, out in the boonies.
Her: "Hey Dad, you'll never guess what I found to roll around in!"
Me: "Out. Hose. Bath."
Her: "Awwwww...shucks."

On TV, a few weeks ago, I heard someone describe the odor of a great French cheese shop as, "Like a dead skunk trampled under the unwashed feet of a thousand teenage boys." No wonder they have open-air cafes.

For me it's the smell of burning pine and ceder. Also smell of Live Ceder.
But my all time favorite smell... was of Matt.

Standing behind him in the line for food at the dining facility during basic training, I would lean forward slightly and slowly gently sniff, taking in how he smelled. There was no cologne, no aftershave, no deodorant, nothing fake. It was just how he smelled. I loved it. We were best friends and Battle Buddies, and we hung out all the time. I loved him.

Then the bastards in charge tore us apart and sent him to Fort Benning Georgia to finish his Basic Training. I never saw (or smelled) him again. I did meet a good friend of his from his hometown who told me something that made me cry.

Matt is gay. He liked me back. I have no contact information, and the info his friend gave me was lost in a fire. Thinking on it...

Anyway, those are my favorite smells.
Mar 29, 2009 5:33 PM GMT
The smell of the pine plantation my parents live on back home in upstate NY. It's very nostalgic and makes me think of "simpler" times.

Homemade donuts and anything made with cinnamon. I think cinnamon is my favorite.

Gain fabric softener.

The smell of freshly split firewood. The smell itself isn't one to make cologne of, it's just an earthy, lively and pleasant smell.

My favorite smell is the smell of a guy I really like. It's kinda like a drug and I get slightly incoherent if I'm not careful.

I like the smell of cow or horse manure after the rain. It brings me back to GB by a dark wooden barn with overcast skies, and broad grass areas where the animals can feed.

This one is odd too and comes from school experiences in England. The smell comes from lunch, cafeteria cooking. It has a meaty smell-maybe from a pot roast and potatos. I can't create the smell even though I like to cook. I rarely smelled it in American cafeterias but haven't yet identified the food which the smell eminates.

As some one said before-the smell of vinyl covering new toys such as, toy punching bags like Bozo the Clown.

Finally, early, spring grass when it's first being watered. Still yellow but not fully greened. It has that fresh, sweet smell that seems so alive.

Mar 29, 2009 7:01 PM GMT
hmm, a brand new home, a brand new car, gasoline, the inside of a pool store, the Fashion Valley shopping center in San Diego (god they use a gorgeus aeromatic selection of flowers in their pots) crisp paper and the smell of chicken frying. These all put me at ease and make me happy ;)

Woods, as in walking in the...
Spices such as cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg...
Orange, freshly cut
Peach, freshly cut

New mown grass from back East. This scrubby stuff in California that they call grass has no smell at all.
Sandalwood

I once had jasmine trees in pots in my apartment. I live in a building with an elevator.

I went out of town on a trip for just two days. Before leaving I noticed that the jasmine trees were just about to bloom. So as I came home I got off of the elevator and being in the hallway I could smell jasmine. It was like a perfume.

I didn't know where it was coming from but then when I opened my door to my apartment I was overwhelmed by the fragrance that filled my home. The trees had blossomed while I was away and made my home smell amazing.

Oh and I love the smell of saffron. When I open the spice jar it smells like ultra fine ultra high end Italian leather. It has this incredibly rich fragrance.

- The smell of the air right before it's about to rain. Makes me feel like I'm embarking on a journey.
- Coffee roasting. Reminds me of my dad.
- Comic books. Makes me feel excited and full of anticipation.
- Super dank weed, specifically Sonoma Purple. It makes me feel energized (ironically).
- The stuffed animal I've slept with since I was 3 years old. It smells, literally, like concentrated me. It also reminds me of childhood.
- Neutrogena T-Gel Shampoo (not on its own, in someone's hair after they've used it). Makes me feel like I'm being held by my mom.
- Clove cigarette smoke. Makes me feel euphoric.
- Gasoline (surprised only one person has mentioned this so far). Makes me feel like I've just accomplished something -- even if I'm just filling up my gas tank.
- Used jock straps/ a guy's crotch or pits after physical activity. Makes me think of men and sex and sweat and aggression and passion.
- Wood-fire smoke. Puts me in touch with nature.
- Shea Butter. It soothes me.
- Onions frying. They make me feel hungry. Always. Even if I've just eaten.

gasoline and aromatic compounds (including wood glue, varnish, acetone, etc.); also of note: Floor wax! (that red kerosene-y kind) LOL, always reminds me of home (we have wooden floors on the second floor of our house)

Ooh, aroma! The only way to get to me without words or music.

I absolutely love the scent of:

- Desert Rain on hot dry days.
- Cucumber and Melon air fresheners of any kind.
- Roses
- Fresh cut grass
- A clean hot sweat on a guy mixed the chlorine of a pool and sunblock; or just the sweat alone.
- Baby powder, alone.
- Small amounts of bleach.
- New and old books
- New clothes/linens
- Sun dried linens
- Any candle with a water related theme.

The way the scents make feel varies, but overall any good scent, that comes out of nowhere and gets my full attention, brings a feeling of euphoria and childhood bliss.

One smell that always takes me back to my childhood is the scent of ripe stone fruit; my late Zio grew peaches and nectarines on a beautiful property in the hinterland of northern New South Wales. We used to visit him pretty regularly during the harvest, and a walk through the orchards at that time of the year would just leave you salivating... pure olfactory bliss.

Prepare to bash me without mercy but I have a sort of sentimental love for Paris Hilton's fragrance perfume.

When someone wears it I remember good times with a special person.

Having said that I find the perfume to be the only thing I will enjoy by Miss Hilton as I find her repulsive.

The crisp smell of wet dirt before if it's about to rain. It reminds me of sitting out at my grandparent's place in Mexico on a warm afternoon after having finished one of my grandmother's delicious meals.
There's also a sweet flower that reminds me of the year I lived in Virginia when I was 6. It reminds me of walking in the woods down the hill to a creek behind the house, and making friends as I ventured off during my sisters' softball games.

I love the new car with leather smell. I also love, and I fear admitting this, Fierce by Abercrombie. Yea yea, let the teasing begin. I hate the store, hate the clothes, but love that cologne. I don't own it myself, but love the smell of it on another guy. I'll actually walk into the lobby of Abercrombie just to smell it, get asked if I need assistance from a child with a popped collar, and respond with a "no", and walk out.

"scent is a potent wizard that's transported me thru all the years and events in my life" Hellen Keller....

I've been practicing the art of aromatherapy for 20 years, custom blending body oils, massage oils, both theraputic and simply for pleasure, easiest way to explain using essential oils is this, people sniff glue to get high. You can inhale a comforting scent and relax..

My favorite:
puppy breath, gotta love that!
the smell of another man after sex
the smell of your lovers clothes after a workout

I love the smell of a construction site, especially when they are pouring the foundation. The smell is a mixture of soill, freshly cut wood and concrete. There is a certain excitement I associate with the construction of a new building.

That chalky smell newer concrete gets when it gets wet... tea tree shampoo... a guy that has obviously just put on a shirt that was dirty but still smells like yesterday's cologne.

The smell of cinnamon makes me feel warm and tingly. I love the aroma of cinnamon in the winter time.

The smell of the country air on State Route 770 and State Route 73 driving out to Serpent Mound I love as well. It instantly uplifts you.

The smell when it rains on a hot day. That is the most pleasant one for me. Also love smell when grinding fresh coffee. There is this coffee shop in the building where I work and the lady who owns it grinds coffee in the evening, its so good am always there at that moment.

Cloves always make me feel warm and secure.

I used to smoke, so cigarettes smell incredibly sweet and delicious.
