    I would assume...from it's name....that it is a website aimed at, and used by, Twits! {grin}

It's a social networking tool where you type in one or two short sentences about what you're doing/thinking at any given moment. You have a network of friends who read your "tweets," either off the twitter main site, or through designated Twitter-reading applications.

You can rig it so you can text your tweets to the twitter main site. You can also rig it so that you receive a text when a friend updates their twitter status.

Basically, if you know facebook, it's a website all about your status updates.

Completely lame and useless unless you're doing something super interesting that merits constant updates. But for some reason, it's crazy popular.

Twitter is a "micro-blogging" web application. It's like blogging, but instead of lengthy posts, you're limited to 140 characters per post.

You can post through the web, or through text messaging on your cell phone.

Your friends can see your "tweets" and can add comments if they have a Twitter account too.

You don't have to use it for blogging. You can just set your Twitter profile to private and use it as therapeutic tool for venting. Or use it to keep track of your spending while you're out. Or use it to send reminders to yourself. Or keep track of what you ate during the day. Or use it as a workout journal.

Use it for whatever you want.

Ive never tried it but it sounds like a lame copy of facebook.

1 - Can somebody tell me something I can do on twitter that I cant on facebook? Because every single feature mentioned so far has been already available on facebook for a long time.

2 - Twitter might be popular in some specific areas...not in Canada though. Here "everyone" has facebook and they use it. The average facebook user here has over 200 friends, over 100 pictures and has signed up for at least 10 groups. These groups are mainly created by educational institutions and some companies. The events at Universities are promoted through facebook, even my friends parties are promoted through facebook lol.

Again it depends on the place, here in Canada twitter is lame because we are using something else already, but it might be really popular in other places where people have twitter as well. Here you just have to go outside and look at the billboards where phone companies's new strategy to promote their products is "and NOW you can access facebook from your cellphone!!!" lol

    It's a phenomenon of the 20-somethings.

It's a fad based upon the notion that someone would actually care to read every picky detail of your life. It is beyond stupid.

"...I'm now drinking a cup of coffee...."

It's an indication that some people have too much time on their hands, and it's another manifestation of the "cell phone age" in which people feel they need to stay in contact with everyone in their lives, every second of their lives.

I guess you guys know how I feel about it...

I'd just as rather use Plinky. It's fun and at least has some purpose instead of random-nothings.

Facebook.....it still confuses me ....I was just on there to message one of my nephews....there is so much stuff on the page ....from everybody! ....I see postings from guys from RJ ....what am I supposed to do about all that stuff? ....and it is just a jumble. I like RJ where discussions stay in their forums and threads and I know what's what.

For me it is hard to tell where my stuff leaves off and others people's stuff start up. I just know I am gonna post something sometime and it is gonna be published to the world and I am gonna be humiliated all to hell and back.

I swear this is true: My nephew texts me all the time. If he does it more than 3x a day I call him on the phone because I don't have time to text what I can say in less than a minute.
He honestly said "They are coming out with software that allows you to speak into your phone, it changes it to text and then it's sent to who you want and they can change it back to speech if they want.

I looked at him like he had lost his mind and said "It's already out there.... it's called a telephone!!

and these people are going to run our country some day.......

It is just one more thing to dumb us down or an example of it. I can hear the conspiracy theories now.
