Hi guys, I'm fairly new to the world of regular exercise and would love to incorporate swimming into my routine. I swam as a kid so feel comfortable with the strokes, but would love some advice on how to tailor swim workouts besides just randomly swimming laps. Could anyone either offer me some pointers on how they do it, point in the direction of a resource that could, or both? Thanks!

www.swimplan.com is the best site I've ever found.

You enter in the swim strokes you know or want to do, the equipment you have available like pull bouys, board, etc, and then distance/time you want to use and then it generates a workout.

It's interval training with varying speed as well (fartlek like).

The plans are also gauged to your fitness level which is done by doing swim tests periodically. You can do them at register or later after signing in.

The site is free and it you can generate up to 5 plans a day.

The US Masters Swimming site is always a good resource.

    www.usms.org

Their are sample workouts under the Training tab.

You may want to consider read this article at the USMS site:

    Good luck!

I use http://www.swimplan.com as well - great site!
    When I want a harder workout http://www.swim.net/workouts.cfm.

I always get a better workout if I have someone to swim with/against - so checking into a masters swim team in your area is a great idea.
