Gymnastics/Body Weight training

Do people use gymnastics and body weight training? Anyone just do that? I do some basic stuff, but would love to learn more. What are the resources and how easy is it to find places to train (like rings for example...)

Hmm, while gymnists have the most perfect bodies, and I'm sure they're doing something right, I can't say I incorporate a lot of own-body exercises in my workouts. Some of the few that I do do are:

Chin ups, Pull-ups, Push-ups, Dips, and several Ab exercises (like planks, one I just discovered).

Beyond that though, my gym doesn't have rings or anything like that, just horizontal bars and monkey bars. I guess you could get creative, but for some reason I prefer more structured workouts.

I wish you well in your search for resources! Try maybe some kind of gymnastics training center.

um your best bet may be to do a local search for gyms that offer an adult gymnastics class

other than that there are a lot of things you can do but i wouldnt recommend it without the proper equipment and environment to complete them in

I've done a fair bit of training with only body-weight exercises (good for when there are no gyms around) --- and its a great change from hanging out in gyms anyway.

Check out www.crossfit.com ... not body-weight exclusive, but should give you plenty of ideas, as well as workout plans, etc.

http://gymnasticbodies.com/ - similar in set up with crossfit's WOD, but strictly gymnastics and body weight oriented; it is a wonderland of resources for what you're after. They sell gymnastic rings in their online shop should you find yourself wanting to pursue it further at home. I can also recommend 4 or 5 gymnastics gyms in/around Orlando that have adult open gym nights where you could use the apparatuses (p-bars, pommel, rings, high bar, etc...) as well. If you're interested in the latter, shoot me a message and I'll get you the information.

thank you defender14 for that link. i've been looking for information to better bridge the gap between my personal training knowledge, my martial arts training and my meditation practices. i've always thought to try and find out more about gymnastics training philosophies, and this link seems to be the perfect resource to do so. i've needed a bit more information to balance out my yin with my yang. you have provided an important piece to my puzzle. i look forward to the opportunity to experiment on myself and further my evolution. good times.
