My blinding realization of truth

I was in the gym today, and this guy comes up to me- a guy that I know, but haven't seen for a couple of months. I've always thought this guy was in awesome shape- way better shape than I. In fact, I've always been really insecure about my body image, but that's another topic altogether.

We exchange niceties as one does with acquaintances, and then he proceeds to tell me that I look really great. This is a complement that I get a lot, so I fire back "No, you look better." as I usually do. In a surprising move, he immediately responds with "Well, would you switch bodies with me?" I fall silent. In my head, I was saying "Hell no!" but I remain silent. After a few beats, he says "That's what I thought. Have a good workout, man."

In that one instant, all my insecurities melted away, and I realized that I wouldn't trade bodies with him. In fact, I wouldn't trade bodies with most everybody- I've worked freaking hard to get to where I am, and I'm proud of what I've accomplished.

That's all. Just thought I'd share.

    Good for you!

I had a similar experience that helped me understand that. It actually happened before the real work began, but I had something further to look forward to. I still have lots of toning to do; but, I've come to accept and appreciate what I have as a vessel for my soul to be treated with respect and maintained. It's a blessing that I wouldn't give up for anything!

Good for you. But how about some proof. You don't have any shitless pics, or even any with tight shirts. Let's see what you got! ;-)

I don't think he needs a shirtless pic for us to know he's a good quality, attractive guy.

That may be true, but lack of a pic still hints on the insecurities he himself brought to light.

No offense, but Modesty does not equal Insecurity. He could just be modest about showing off his body. That's how I am anyway. I prefer to know someone and be a bit closer (you know, friends at least) before taking my shirt off.

EDIT: Of course it's possible to be both Modest AND Insecure. *shrug the OP will have to tell us IF he wants to.

Not trying to tell him how to live his life. Just a possible inward observation from the outside. Don't know him well enough that he should take my words as the entirety of truth in the world, but just something for him to nibble on, while he thinks about whom he really is. Sorry my dry humour wasn't more apparent there. It wasn't meant to insult the guy either. Either way, it's just random online guess work. Nobody gets things absolutely right the first time all the time. Like him, you and I.

So true. icon_smile.gif I wasntthinking you were being offensive, and I will openly agree that chatting (and even worst, forums) are horrible medias to comunicate, as humor, sarcasm, and sympathy (and any others I left out) are sometimes difficult to express in their entirety, with as much passion as you would like. Whole flamewars are started cause someone misunderstood the emotion represented in a post.

*HUG for previous posters* Nothing douses a flamewar like a hug.

Except maybe a 5 gallon bucket of warm water on the hot guy in a shirt. icon_razz.gif

    Okay that was just naughty.

I feel so dumb, I forgot to say to you as well that this is a great thing for you. Confidence is great, so I hear. I am glad you found this out. You're a great guy and you deserve to be happy.
