I read a magazine article in OUT a couple months back about how it had the potential to destroy gay culture. I don't remember what the logic was.

Anyway, I decided to see what the fuss was about last night, and created an account. I was online for no more than 30 minutes and was propositioned for sex three times.

    wtf.

You didn't know that was a hookup site? The name of the site is self explanatory. icon_lol.gif

my point is that for some reason, the majority of the guys on that website send you a picture of their dick and an invitation to have sex(which is deductively included on the dick pic anyway). But if youre are asking me what if all the guys were young really good looking ones? The answer is : It would have had the same effect on me. The fact that they were all over 45 years old was just information i presented to point out a trend on the users on that site only, not to be taken as an offense whatsoever.

It is a pick up site just like hundreds of others. Newbies always get a ton of email, due to being the "fresh meat" to the site. I think mostly it is a cruising site, where guys go to look and dream of hooking up, but in generally dont.

Yes, what WAS the logic in OUT? I thought 3 propositions in 30 minutes was the very essence of gay culture. What culture is OUT talking about? icon_question.gif

Perhaps it was the way that your post put these 2 thoughts together that on first glance....was offensive... I certainly took it that way.

Made me want to say "Hey wait a minute, I never send pictures of my dick out and I am NOT creepy (though I am over 45)"

    icon_biggrin.gif

But thanks for clearing it up....

WTF did you expect to get when you signed up on a gay hookup site? An invitation to have tea and scones out on the veranda?

We had a thread on that article when it came out.

I can't recall its logic, as there was none. People want sex. Manhunt is an outlet for that. If there wasn't Manhunt people would still cruise the parks and toilets. If anything, Manhunt has improved Queer culture. God bless their good work.

lol thats not the problem haha, i thought it was creepy because it was the first thing they could think of to start a conversation plus the amount of guys doing the same. Im not a monk let alone a saint. If I like a guy and we have talked and we like each other I dont care if it gets more intimate; whether it is online or not is totally irrelevant.

anyway, sorry for the ambiguity on my first post. Im not Age-ist!!!!! icon_evil.gificon_razz.gif

For some reason? It's a hook-up sight, were you expecting pics of their families? Besides, think of it as catalog shopping, you need to see the goods before you can make your decision!

I totally agree.. but how many people buy a fridge only on sight of its power cord? I wanna see the whole damn fridge.. most of those guys who send there cocks are butterfaces and you wouldn't wanna do'em anyway.. well.. at least not without heavy amounts of alcohol or a paperback and ducktape..

Hehe, ok well putting aside the fact that I'm sure the guys on Manhunt aren't really enjoying us comparing them to buying a frig, the cock pic is the frig, it catches your attention, enticing you to look inside (the face and body shots).

No face and body shots? Move on...a good frig should be willing to show off how much meat it can store!

    How's that? icon_biggrin.gif

ehh it might catch your attention but not mine lol. I like cocks but I love guys the most...and besides I dont feel confortable on any website where their users treat each others like fridges.

Well, I suppose we could have used a washing machine/spin cycle analogy! JK

Maybe a dating site as opposed to a hook-up site would be more your thing then.

I can see how it would hurt gay culture.

Are there many websites for str8 people to hook-up at? Not dating sites... but purely hook-up? Look how many sites there are for gays to hook up on.

The str8 world--especially conservatives--which basically controls our rights, will see this as a negative attribute concerning gay culture.

MOST, certainly not all, str8 people search for life partners. What it the ratio of str8 monogamous people to str8 cruisers in comparison to the ratio of gay monogamous people to gay cruisers--analyzing ratios at various age groups would be interesting as well.

However, some other things to think about:

    1. Are gay people more promiscuous than str8s?

    2. Is there just more of a market for cruising sites for gays--since many have to live a lie--or feel like they have to live a lie--by acting "str8?"

    3. If the cruising sites disappeared one day, would conservatives find something else wrong with the gay community--more evidence of why to deny gays equal rights?

    4. Are SOME people "hornier" than others and have a harder time staying monogamous--only gays have the luxury of living a life of promiscuity since social norms for str8 people haven't completely been applied yet to gay people?

    5. What is the divorce rate of different populations of str8 people? What is the rate of cheating? Does it equate to the same percentage as in the gay community?

    6. Who are we to judge others for their lifestyle choices? Isn't that the main argument of our equal rights movement?
