I am going to burning man this year in the Nevada desert. I would love information from somebody who has been there.

What would you like to know? Unless you're bringing an RV, be prepared to get dirty and stay dirty. I was washing playa dust out of everything for weeks! icon_smile.gif

I've been 7 times. What would you like to know not covered in the survival guide?

Off the cuff, here are my tips:

    1) You'll come home with tons of food, and that great idea you had at home to make some grandiose meal every day will vanish quickly once you are out there.

    2) Water....also something you'll come home with a lot of (or you'll give it away on your way out). If you drink beer, DON'T bring bottled beer. Remember you have to take your empty receptacles home. Keep it cheap, watery and in a can.

    3) Leave the dumb trinkets for "trade" at home. Unless its something really cool its like saying "Here, throw this away for me!" It's NOT a barter system, its a "give it away" system.

    4) Shade is sooo important, for lounging during the day and putting your tent under as well (if you are going tent route, which I have done for 7 years, but that changes this year as I bought an RV..woohoo). You can get an extra few hours of sleep by investing in a portable car port to put your tent under, with some tapestries or sheets hanging from sides.

    5) Get ready to hear a lot of dubstep.

    6) Get a portable/solar shower. As SLJ says, you will get dirty (dusty technically), but I still showered once a day out there. NOTHING beats a shower around 7pm out there.

    7) Personally I never let my bare feet touch the playa, others do. I wear combat boots 100% of the time there.

Thanks for broadening my horizons. Even though I listen to a lot of electronic music, I'd never heard of dubstep. From the few dubstep stations I sampled on shoutcast, it won't displace goa/trance as my fave, but it does have an interesting quality.

As for Burning Man, my mind would love to go. But, after spending a few summer days camped out in a tent in Red Rock Canyon State Park in the Mojave Desert, I know my body would have a terrible time out on the playa.

Did you have shade? Thats crucial out there and makes it tolerable. But you could only go for a few days...its cool. I don't go for the whole week anymore.
Personally I don't find it THAT hot.

If you like art, fashion and electronic music, you have to go at least once. You can always leave if u can't hack it.
