They are the most popular discussions on the RealJock forums....by far.

    And the numbers are staggering.

In the ALL THINGS GAY category which has more posts than all the other categories combined:

The top 6 most discussed topics are "the guy above you" related.
8 of the top 10 are "the guy above me" related
and ALL BUT 4 of the top 20 most discussed topics are all 'the guy above you" related.
Not included in this is "What do you have in common with the guy above you" which would have easily been in the top 20 but it is filed in the GROUP ACTIVITIES category for some reason.

And here is a little fact- CHARLITOS who sometimes takes a lot of crap for creating "The guy above you" topics is only responsible for 2 of the 16 in the top 20.

I have posted a bunch of topics on the forum boards over the last 6 months, but by far the most popular and most discussed are the couple of "the guy above you" topics I created. Go figure.

All this is amazing to me...I had no idea how shallow we are! icon_biggrin.gif

    Thoughts?

The simple truth is that my post "Tell a naughty lie about the previous poster" was the most creative, funny thread ever in human history.

If this was a "guy above you thread", it would have gotten sooo many more hits by now!! What does that mean? Most respondants come to the forum for a quick ego rub down and not really to discuss important topics. Oh well, I can talk enough for all of um.

On the whole I think they're funny.

Don't forget that even though they have a massive 'hit' rate, everyone just skips to to end to comment on the guy above them.

Who doesn't love a thread in which a one word answer is not only acceptable, but encouraged?

    Oh, right, me.

Actually, that's not entirely true. I think if they weren't so utterly overdone, a couple "guy above you" threads would be fun. I think the first couple might have been enjoyable (though it's been so long since they first started that I can't remember). But now, there are just far too many of them. It irritates me that I see actual fitness threads with no posts past the OP, and then these inane topics with a bazillion posts in them, half of which are either "yes" or "no" and the rest being some mildly longer variant of that.

Shallow like a kiddie pool, that's what this forum is fast becoming.

    There's plenty of reasons.

Because they take about zero thought to participate in.
    Because they are silly.
Because they are filled with cute guys.
Because they can feed your ego.

    and now

Because they apparently piss people off. icon_twisted.gif

True, but as a couple people said above, it's also a way to deal with insecurities... or egos that require inflation.

The good news is that there is no limit on topic creation, it's not like when Charlitos creates another of these topics (hey, let's face it. Everyone likes to pick on him cause he's so cute) someone else is deprived of starting a topic about something else.

I wonder what the statistics would look like if you broke them down by time. I looked back at the one's that I had participated in (2% of the threads I've posted in have been "guy above you"), and they were definitely towards the top.

Also, the first ones were along the lines of "what are two things you have in common with the guy above you" and "what would you like to ask the guy above you" which were actuallly pretty good ice-breakers. Perhaps we should resurrect some of those...

icon_smile.gif <- OMG I just realized how much I look like this now that I shaved my head. Creepy!

How shallow WE are? icon_lol.gif Uh, yeah, put the hand mirror down and realize that your 'we' is less inclusive than you think...although I may be stepping into the shallow end just by commenting on this post...

Meanwhile, I've relegated those that post to "the guy above you" as essentially posting to the par of their intelligence. If nothing else, those listings can be referenced for who to avoid on here...let the 'wanna be popular' high school girls have their fun. icon_twisted.gif
