I'm going to a conference in Denver this week for work and I'm looking for a good bar to go to near my hotel. I'm staying at the Crowne Plaza, 1450 Glenarm Place.

It would be really cool to find a place with a nice beer selection and a good juke box. Any suggestions?

Not sure where that hotel would be, but as a visitor, I went to JR's and loved it. Hamburger Mary's is right across the street from it, too. All the bars I went to in Denver were great. Look for excellent happy hour and reverse happy hour specials.

"Good" is relative. What are you looking for? Only a gay bar, or open to straight bars too? Young crowd, mixed crowd, dance club, lounge? Are you limited by distance?

Gay or straight. I'll be with my coworkers. They're all good friends and open to gay bars, but I don't care. I'd prefer within walking distance so we don't have to take a bar. I like good beer so I'd like a place that serves more than bud and yuengling.

Definitely want a bar and not a dance club. And I usually like a mixed crowd.

    Thanks

There are lots of places like that Downtown (especially on/near the 16th Street Mall). Or, you might want to try the "LoDo" area North-East of downtown.

You can take the free mall shuttle to the Rock Bottom Brewery or Paramount Cafe.

LoDo has many micro-brewerys, restaurants and bars; take the free mall shuttle to the end, then walk several blocks east. Double Daughter is gay owned, but a mostly straight crowd. Closer to the ball-park, there is also The Wyncoop, Breckenridge Brewery, Flying Dog Brewery, Lodo's Bar & Grill, Fado Irish Pub, Giggling Grizzly.

I haven't hung out in downtown in a while (parking is a bitch), so I'm not familiar with the newer establishments. but I'm sure the front desk can recommend something.

As far as gay establishments, you'd probably want JRs or Hamburger Marys. They are across the street from each other, but they're about 12 blocks from your hotel.
