    Hey guys,

I have pinched nerves that causes pain to radiate through both of my arms all the way to my fingertips. I got them when i was younger playing football and hockey. Now i'm trying to stay in shape but every time i do anything physical they start to radiate pain icon_sad.gif, yes including running. I have been to a doctor before who wanted me to strengthen the muscles around the nerves????which i did, and still do, however I feel like pinched nerves is probably a common problem for anyone active..how do you deal with them?

You have strange symptoms. A compressed nerve usually occurs in just one extremity rather than both. However it is not impossible. Sometimes a problem in the cervical spine can cause numbness and pain down both arms. Some people with this cervical abnormality have a finding called Lhemitte's Sign. Lhermitte's Sign is an electrical sensation that runs down the back and into the limbs, and is produced by bending the neck forward. There are multiple problems with compressed nerves that an athlete can get.
I found a web page describing them.

If you checked out this article, you can see how complicated the problem is. I doubt if anyone on RJ could give you the reason for your problem. Your problem is causing you significant impairment. You should see a neurologist or sports medicine specialist for a definitive diagnosis

usually pain radiating down both arms is a result of a bulging disc between your cervical vertebrea. when that happens the bulging portion of the disc can press against a nerve root causing pain or numbness. i am an MRI tech so ive done plenty of MRI's for this kind of thing! most of the time it ends up resulting in surgery to fix it. they will eaither give you an artifitial disc or fuse the two vertebrae together. i would see your doctor to make sure you dont end up doing any permanent damage

I think I have a pinched nerve too on my left side because my pinky finger side of my hand gets numb a lot especially when sleeping and if I press up on my upper trap area there is this not so great feelin spot.

I got a massage and it got better but it might be a different problem so hope that helps.

I can't believe I forgot this. About 15 years ago I had a ruptured cervical disk. One of the symptoms I had was severe pain going down my left arm whenever I jogged. At first I thought it was my heart. I discussed this disk problem earlier today in another post http://www.realjock.com/gayforums/472796/
I toughed it out and never had surgery. The pain resolved after 3 months and has never returned; no matter how active I am.

I had a pinched nerve in my mid spine (I forget between which vertebras) back in high school and cried getting into bed at night. Then I went to the chiropractor and was realigned. I felt wonderful afterwards and I highly recommend it.

Just for fun, try stretching your pecs several times each day with both hands behind your head then pull back using your rhomboids, at least 3 sets at 12 reps. Then do one set every 15 minutes while at work during the day.

Puts you in the the right position, reminds you to stay in that position, for cervical pinching AND opens the chest to relieve any pinching that may occur from the arms hanging forward while at the computer.

    Give it a shot...icon_idea.gif
