I never understood why people smoke. Yes, they might be stressed about life, but look at what the average smoker spends on their habbit in one month. That money could be used to pay bills and actually decrease the actual CAUSE of the stress, rather then crutch on a habit that doesnt help it at all! Smoking increases the stress on the body, it doesnt actually decrease it at all. It's like when someone feels warm from drinking alcohol, there is a warming sensation, but it's false, and having all that blood in the capilaries actually icreases the risk of cold related injuries and death! Same with smoking and stress.
And both kill your bank account for no real reason.

If your having financial problems, don't smoke or do a lot of drinking. (It's better for you if you don't either way)

I remember in 2nd grade I said the first thing I'd do as a President would be to put a $200.00 tax on a pack of cancer-sticks.icon_lol.gif

I approve. Smoking is just nasty...and being a non-smoker and having to kiss someone who is (i'm single so this is past tense)...is a nightmare. That evil taste swirls in your mouth and not even an exorcism can get it out. icon_evil.gif

I really hate when people that have never smoked feel the need to dole out their wisdom ( or lack thereof ). I smoked for about 12 years before I finally quit, and when I did it was because I was ready to.. it's not easy.
And while many of you are hoping for some kind of prohibition of smoking, just remember the factory workers for phillip morris losing there jobs, the tabbaco farmers , distribution companies.. it all trickles down. And when no ones smokes anymore and the Federal and State govenments have to increase taxes else where to make up for the lost revenue and do it for EVERYONE instead of just this dwindling group ( how about double the taxes on your groceries and triple them on alcohol, gas, utilities, etc.)

    O.K. I'm done

Don't bother with reason or logic, Lap......these guys minds are made up by carefully crafted media that smoking is the new 'group' that can be vilified without fear of repercussion.....just like people used to do with blacks, gays, chinese, polish.......etc.
And for the record: No, I don't and never have smoked. Why do I defend it then? This: Where will they stop? The Federal ratchet only tightens, never loosens.

At no point am I saying those that smoke are bad or any less of a person. Smoking in it self is nasty. It had you addicted for 12 years. You may have done it [quit] when you were ready but it had you for more than half of my life. If we [the nation] were that interested in gaining taxes/revenue/ect, we'd legalize weed or what have you and tax the hell outta that instead.

All that I was saying, and I truly didn't mean to offend you, was that watching someone die from lung cancer because of smoking, or getting a headache because your inhaling it, or having some disgusting taste stuck in your mouth for days on end is wretched.

I'm glad to see this too !!! I live in a tobacco growing area where nearly every rural property owner of any size depended on their tobacco income for many many decades from the past. Over the last 10 years it has been fased out, I had tobacco allotments that came with the 80+ acres I owned, and sold the allotment to the state program that was closing out the system. The area is doing quite well without Tobacco being the mainstay that it used to be, so personally I look forward to its demise as far as smoking goes. I understand that it does have some value as a insecticide !!!! LOL !!! it should too !!! since when you smell it on someones breath is smells like 'shit'.

I think he should triple the liquior tax also. Maybe people won't get behind a wheel of car after they go out and drink.

I am more afraid of some drunk stupid jerk behind the wheel of 2 to 3 ton missle. A smoker can't change my life in an instant and dunk driver can I have the scars to prove it.icon_evil.gif

Up here a single pack of cigarettes is about 10.00 and taxes account for 80% of that price. It works.

Last year the government collected about 7 billion in these taxes. The down side is that the gov't now needs that revenue (makes you wonder who's really addicted, and why cessation programs and products aren't free, eh?) - supposed to be for health care but gets put into 'general revenue' instead.
