I've got this crazy idea into my head to make tons of cards with that Alfred Kinsey scale about the sexual behavior in males(mouthful) and scatter it all over my high school anonymously.

I know it sounds particularily "g0y" but I still feel that affirmative action in the name of same-sex guys every where to be affirmative action none the less. At the very least it might break people out of their normal ways of thinking about homosexuality.icon_rolleyes.gif
Post similar experiences if you have them and I just wanna hear some of your opinions on this. Is it a bad move to make?icon_question.gif

Ridicule me now because I know you wish you still had the same chance!icon_twisted.gif

    Just saying...

Intrusive anarchic interventions into the mundane lives of your fellow students are immensely satisfying. I used to grafitti political messages, Milton etc. around my city when I was in school.

But the question is, will they "get" it? What do you want to achieve by this? Perhaps you are trying to show that sexuality is more complicated than "gay" or "straight"

Do you have any allies? Are you out? Is there an LGBT organization at your school? Perhaps start one! Are there any sympathetic staff? Could you get a good speaker to come to talk about these issues?

Planning makes perfect. I agree that you should take the time to fully figure out what you're trying to get across and greatest method of doing so. As americans, if you aren't sorry I assumed that you were, we tend to think that bigger is better or makes more of an impact.

You don't have to go all out filling the school up with messages. Though that would be fun as hell. Maybe you could do something that would really get attention and start opening people's eyes. Just think about it.

but in case you're not out I suppose such a method you could provide you with anonimity.

Thanks! These are a whole lot more positive then I thought they were going to be.

No Im not out yet and Im paranoid that someone will pick one up and think" hmm...Ryan cuts paper just like this. I wonder..."

Yeah, I want people in school to have at least a glimpse in at the blurry world from the straight side into the gay side, because they have have all these misconceptions from the sometime very brief moments they spend concious in church...icon_rolleyes.gif I hope it'll make guys a little more comfortable with their feelings for other guys.

Im pretty nervous about hearing the reactions of people from school when the rumors about these cards get around.icon_redface.gif

just do it. paste them to lockers nobody is that observant of how you cut paper. and accidentily pick one up and talk about it with your friends. Like, "i wonder how accurate these are 1 in 10 people is gay? wow that's like anybody could be gay. what do you think?" See the responses and defend anybody who is out of the closet already. nobody has to be gay to defend gays.

I agree with the guy above me nobody is going to be that observant of how you cut paper. and if they were use a paper cutter, you know one of those big ones like they use in the offices of schools.

However you gotta think if your going to do this on a big scale. Like thousands of them, your going to be observed doing it. And likely whoever sees will hurry to pick one up and read it and all your fears could come to life. Sorry not trying to make you paranoid, but it's the truth.

In my high schools I started GSA's (Gay Straight Alliance), in both I had opposition, but when threated with legal action most principals cave. icon_biggrin.gif If you start something like this, and then get approval for posters, you could do it like that. That way you won't get expelled for it. Also if your school was a slideshow type announcements you could get it in on that. If it's just the loud speaker announcements you could get them to say it.

An alternative to both this, would be to make the little cards, and just casually set them on the desk closest to the door as you're leaving class. That minimizes the chances that you'll be seen leaving them, and protects your anonymity.

Finally, if you go to GLSEN, or gaystraightalliance.com or just google GSA, it can help you get the message out. If there are any openly gay kids in your school buddy up to them, and plant the idea to start a GSA. Usually if we're out in a place that doesn't really like it, we can handle a little ridicule about starting a club.

Thanks, Oberon. I realized that 1. Id have to make hundreds if not thousands to get enough around and noticed and 2. I can only leave them in so many places without being seen like in the restroom or etc.

Im now thinking more along the lines of posting it to the school myspace forum and maybe even directly to a few students(anonymously, of course:winkicon_smile.gif

I almost forgot I live in the internet ageicon_rolleyes.gif

As do we all. Though I wouldn't totally give up on the idea of the little flyers. Internet is good, but it's easy to ignore by just clicking on another website.

If you do have a sympathetic/brave teacher you could maybe get them to distribute the stuff for you.
