    Hey guys

Well after 3 years of going to Ballys Gym, I think I am ready for a change, but I am not sure if my options are better. Want to hear from you guys and see which gym gets the better rating. If im going to spend money I would like a clean gym, that has enough equipment for a complete work out. The reason I am thinking of leaving Ballys is mainly due to the fact that they do not keep their equipment up do date and it is not that clean, but if that the best one out there, I will just stay. So of the following which is better:

    24 hour Fitness
    LA Fitness
    Equinox
    Ballys

I hope to hear from you guys soon.

Bally's is my gym and it is always clean. It really depends on the location and the manager. There is a second Ballys in my area and I never go there because it is not as clean and the staff is a little surly.

I have called Ballys before about cleanliness, and it improved, so maybe you should go above the local manager (assuming you've already taked to her/him about taking your money elsewhere) and talk to corporate.

Being from NY I can't comment on 24 Hour Fitness or LA Fitness, but here, Equinox is definitely the best gym. It's clean, up-to-date, has top instructors & has some nice design elements too. Best of all, with an all access pass, you can go to any Equinox location without restriction (including ny, ca, boston, miami, etc.).

    Gold's is a juicehead favorite.

    LA Fitness is top notch.

    Lifetime will spoil you, BAD.

24 Hour Fitness is horribly mis-managed.

I can only give you my take on the gyms in the cities that I have used them...
Equinox...was a great gym (in NY) great new equipment
good staff and a good usually hotbodied clientele
LA Fitness... here in SoFLA was good...the equipment was good for my workouts but it was usually crowded with lots of college kids
Bally's... is Bally's it's usually serviceable I like it because it's in every city and when I travel there's always one around (you're right the equipment is usualyy old and not too clean)

They all suck. I'd look into a local neighborhood gym. My last two gyms are one location privately owned. If there's an issue its resolved quickly since the owner is there all the time. Crowd also in my experience seems to be more respectful and friendly then the large chains.

The best thing you can do is go to the gym at a peak time and see if they keep up with the locker room use, the name does not necessarily mean the quality will be there, they are all different depending on the area. I've been to very good Gold's and very bad one's, same with LA and 24. I'd bet Equinox would be your best bet. But see for yourself
