What does the name of this site, "Real Jock" mean to you?

The name "Real Jock" to me would be indicative of a place for gay athletes to be but it seems that it has become mostly about building muscle and not about playing sports.
The question for discussion; Is building bulky muscles as an end to itself a "sport" so they should be considered gay athletes or jocks? Are competitive athletes NOT what this site is about ?

    Gentlemen, your thoughts please.

Much to your disfavour I'm responding to your thread. To me this site is a great place to "meet" new people from all over the globe who are interested in sports/exercise. Even if they aren't, team sports oriented, fitness is everyone's thing here. It's great being able to question, laugh, fight with others over things that are happening in the Gay community. Good and bad.

Are you questioning whether Bodybuilders are true athletes? icon_eek.gif Wow, that is really foolish on your part. The amount of physical and mental training that goes into Bodybuilding is far more intense then most other SPORTS.
It's a game that involves strength and stamina as well as mental acumen.

So YES, it is most definitely a sport.

'well...I was gong to post a topic similar...which was "What is a "RealJock"?

I don't necessarily agree that this site is about building muscle exclusively. Though I build muscle, I was attracted to this site because of tennis. I think that a lot of people here in the forums peruse the "all things gay" topics and maybe a couple of others....but there are plenty of discussions about sports other than bodybuilding. Maybe the articles are more general in nature but I do think the site is about all sports. Many of the guys I talk with have at least one other sports interest besides weight training.

Well below Real Jock you will find an explanation .. it is a well guarded secret but it says
    "Gay Fitness Heath & Life"
so there you have it icon_wink.gif

Other than that, I would alternatively call it "The itchy and scratchy show"

Why does it matter? Why not just look at the many other previous threads about "real jocks"?

A site to get physical and nutritional information.....AND have discussions that arent strictly and overwhelmingly sexual....I like the wide variety of topics that get discussed even under the restricted Forum headings.

    +"I can't find a masc boyfriend like myself .. "
+"I am not judging femme guys but ...."
+"Am I the only normal person?"
    +"I just .... was I right?"
    +"What are you reading??"
+"My boyfriend just ... should I break up with him??"

    OH, I forgot ..

    +" .... the guy above you .."

    Care to add any?icon_lol.gif

I kind of agree with Rocco. When I first came on here, the focus was more sports-specific. I learned a hell of a lot about cycling from a guy who was one of the top ranked duathletes in the world. The benefit from the availability of his information was enormous.

I think the site's become progressively more social. "Not that there's anything wrong with that". Although my personal preference would be for more sports/fitness information and less catfighting/political threads (but more LOLcats). Seems like the percentage of guys who have no interest in sports or fitness but are on this site to cruise has increased. That's not a value judgement - just an observation.

The opposite to one above; "Why do masc guys only find fem guys un-attractive?" (and/or "...judge fem guys.")

I was just thinking the other day how very little of the forum is exercise/health/fitness/nutrition related. Most posts seem social and unrelated to fitness.

I think the site is just fine (but could use a few more forum categories) You just gotta respond to the things you think are important to you, and ignore the rest ..

Short of that we can always take a break and drop off for a while.

About the forum thing, I normally just post to stuff that is on the main page. I'm sure you can look in the fitness threads and find stuff to talk about if you want. I've dived in there a few times, there's quite a few to choose from. icon_smile.gif

Has anyone noticed that when you're on a profile page, the title bar on your web browser says..

[screen name] : [headline] | [city] Gay Man and Gay Dating at RealJock

So is RJ a dating site? Or "Gay Fitness Health & Life" site?

How about a feature that would allow you to block the more inane topics, such as my pet hate, guy above you threads?

    Thank you for your thoughts.
I was not asking if RJ was bad, just asking how you see it and if it is getting away from playing competitive sports and more into body building which despite what you say is not a sport per say. I am NOT knocking Body building or saying it doesn't require great physical and mental effort.

I think that being a jock is just another look - like emo or goth or cowboy or drag queen or twink. But rather than being dress-up-oriented, it's about fitness and health.

I'm unconvinced that playing team sports is the only route to getting that jock look. I also think that the articles posted are where the best advice is, because it's researched and presented by professionals rather than just opinion pieces. Therefore, using the forums for social bonding seems like just another healthy activity.

Not to seem profound or shallow but to me, the site name "Real Jock" means a combination of inferiority complexes, superiority complexes and marshmallow fluff.

Hmm interesting viewpoint. I wasn't thinking about a lock "look" but rather real athletes or real jock as the name implies.

I come for the fitness information; I stay for the LOLcatz.

And a real jock is simply an active individual, be it in the bed...or out.

I think the whole website's somewhat "straight-acting"; Zimster can view it in Dubai, but not other gay websites!

LOL. Quite a few gay guys are non-athletes. Quite a few athletes are gay, but, don't wear it on there sleeve. The self-confidence of being an athlete and gay / bi makes the sexuality a non-issue to many true athletes. They have larger fish to fry.

I view Real Jock as athletically inclined. To often, I think the fairies bring a tone of blatant sexuality that spoils the athletic part.
