Everyone has had "That Day" when you wake up mad at the world, or someone cuts you off, you partner is driving you crazy, or you want to kill your boss...So I was wondering....

What types of different methods you guys choose to deal with anger or rage?icon_evil.gif

Do you work out when your angry?

    Pick fights? icon_mad.gif

    Strangle stuffed animals? icon_lol.gif

    Meditate?

    Shrug it off?

Let me know guys. How do you purify your pissed-off-ness?

I internalize a lot of my anger. I don't think that is unusual for an extreme introvert like myself.

On those days that are really bad (like last week when I got bombarded by a million different work requests by people who are too lazy or stupid to get the answer themselves), I go home and pour myself a glass of wine, put my IPod in the docking station and listen to some tunes. Music to me is the best therapy.

I exercise until I'm about to pass out; then I don't really have the energy to be angry.

I totally agree with you about music being the best therapy. If I'm really pissed I can usually disappear into my music for about an hour and things seem better or easier to handle when I come back to them.

I defer my anger until the ideal moment presents itself to act. Anytime I temporarily lose my temper is a rare personal failure, and I hate myself more than the circumstances that brought it about.

As for my deferred anger, I have infinite patience. My experience is that I never lose. Like a good military commander, I can afford to lose battles if I ultimately win the war. So that little slights & victories against me don't concern me, except that they keep me motivated, and focused on the final prize.

If you should ever anger me enough, realize that you are doomed. No power on Earth will protect you, no intervention save you. Once I have set my mind on something, it happens. It is best not to anger me. Yes, I "manage" my anger very well. icon_twisted.gif

I gather up my iPod and hit the gym real hard or go for a loooong run. But really, I very rarely get truly pissed off. A little time to work up some endorphins and analyze the source of my anger usually does it for me. If it's just one of those general 'fuck the world' days, I forgo the endorphin rush and take a nap...cuz if I'm in an ambiguously foul mood or I'm overreacting to every little thing, it means I just need a little sleep.

I like to go a few rounds with the heavy bag. I put the most aggressive, angry music I have on my mp3 player, and punch and kick the hell out of the bag until I can't breathe anymore. Rest a few minutes, rinse and repeat.

I used to cut myself when I was mad/sad.icon_eek.gif

Now I dance around my room naked... pretending to be a beautiful butterfly in a grassy field on a nice and sunny day icon_surprised.gif

It helps to remind yourself that, probably, unless you're accosted by a real asshole, that the universe has not conspired against you to give you a rotten day and that the person who might have annoyed you (on the road, at the supermarket, in the gym), didn't wake up that day with the intent on ruining your day (or ruining your day in particular). Focus on breathing and realize that this too shall pass.

I find that flame wars on the internet, with a spicey mix of humor and bitch, also helps exfoliate me of the stresses of the day. icon_biggrin.gif

I had the judge throw me in Anger Management after I told him to go to hell...

He gave me 54 classes of Anger Management! The one thing I hate more than those classes is the Instructor trying to make you talk when you don't even want to be bothered, you just show up to class in hopes of not going to jail...lol But then again...there is a punching bag and some boxing gloves OR out in the garage, there is a Louisville Slugger with a few garbage cans; have your way and picture the face of someone who makes you mad at work or wherever...lol I usually run about 2 miles or more till I'm outta breath and too wore out to be even more mad...lol

Did I mention that I told a judge to go to hell?

I'll punch the wall, the door, or whomever is around me.... Or, I'll RIP their heads off, then the world is ALL roses again.

You know what I think? I think someone has a lot of pain and emotion inside. Someone needs a hug.

Now let's dance like little butterflies without a care in the world!

You know what. I don't have issues with anger or rage. I awake every morning with a spring to my step. People i work with wonder how I do it. Always bright, and smiling, and being lighthearted. It's the way I was born. Even with all I have been forced too endure in life, has not taken this away from me.icon_biggrin.gif

Yet for many all it takes is one mad day, or not getting their own way in an election, and as soon as they get their way, they even belive in God.icon_rolleyes.gif

If I was not like this. I may of had a hissy fit long ago at RJ, and stormed off, because of all the people here who do have issues with their anger management. Some are above me.

Happens to me only at work when everyone sends in detail questions, whose answers I need to look up or ask for myself. After recognizing my bad mood, I just take a deep breath and do something I enjoy instead. After a while I start working on the questions. Checking them off one by one gives me a nice feeling of accomplishment.

I used to punch the wall, it hurts lol so I stop. Now I'll just open up a computer game and play it until I the anger ease.

Sometime I go cycling until wherever my subconscious lead me to.

I'm about to go do it now - YOGA! On a more daily basis, exercise and cooking are things I do at least 6 days a week and are very therapeutic for me.

Anger is physically exhausting for me. With nobody to vent to, I typically become even more introverted and shut down...looking for a Calgon moment.
