If that was my class, I would have asked you if you were there to cruise the internet or to learn the subject.
I was taking classes the past couple of years, and it was very distracting to see images on another student's lap top jumping and flashing, while I was trying to pay attention.

I had this class once, filled with MA and PhD students, with this one kid who would read role playing game forums all class. But when ever he would switch windows you could see his desktop which always a variation on a barely legal girl showing her snatch with a caption like "Victory: So Close You can Taste it". He always sat in the front of the class too, making it even more odd.

At least it wasn't that annoying guy that screams, "HEY, EVERYBODY! LOOK! I'M LOOKING AT GAY PORNO! I'M LOOKING AT MEN WITH WITH THEIR PEEPEE'S TOUCHING, AND I LIKE IT!" It comes included with a picture of a man swinging his penis around in circles.

My page suddenly "stopped responding", and my brother just looked at me. lol

Aw I hate when something like that happens
Although in organic chem last week my friend was watching gossip girl and it was really tough trying to pay attention so i pulled the earphone cord out and at the max volume the words "How about we strip naked and stare at each other" came out lol

Whole class looked at us and the prof asked what we were watching lol

I took some classes at a "notebook university" 8 years ago, where every student in class had a notebook connected via Ethernet jacks at our desks. We were told to kill the audio, but if someone forgot, and something blared out, we just laughed, like when you forget to silence your cell phone. I don't think this is a big deal. icon_confused.gif

I take off 10 points every time I see students texting or repeat cellphone offenders. If your cellphone goes off once, it is fine. Twice, I am suspicious, three times and it is -10.

    Caught texting, -10

I've also been a college Professor, and I never cared what my students did, provided it wasn't a distraction to others. We didn't have notebook computers back then, but students still doodled in their textbooks, and read unrelated material, and I really didn't care.

They were adults, paying for my course, and how they used their time in my classroom (or didn't, if they skipped class), really didn't concern me. I gave them quizzes and tests, and had them write papers, to demonstrate to me that they understood the material I was trying to teach them.

If they passed my tests & requirements, it didn't matter to me at all if they were knitting in class, provided they weren't a distraction & hindrance to the other students trying to learn. If I were in a classroom again today, that's the only criticism I might have of our AMT87, that his notebook audio was on. And I hope I would have smiled and joked about it, trusting it was a fluke and wouldn't happen again.

A classroom is a place to learn, not to serve hard time.

No, I am fair. I know professors here to kick you out of class and deduct a third of your participation points on one offense. It is completely distracting when all you here is "click click click click click" and hear random giggles. Or to top it all off, when they have their phones on vibrate and get incessant texts so you hear "brmmmm" every 10s.

I don't give a shit if they pay. If they do, then they should be more interested in the class.
