If you had 6 days, where would you vacation in the US?

Helping a friend out here...giving him some ideas.

Keep in mind travel time, distances from start and stop points.

What would be your ultimate 6 day vacation in America?

I would travel from Seattle down the California Coast to San Diego.

    How about you?

Hey, I have a friend who will be in Vancouver wanting to do the very same thing. I've only ever been to Seattle, Sacramento and San Fran and Tampa.

Curious to see the responses. He doesn't mind staying in one city though. This guy is also a runner and likes active vacations, not just tanning on the beach.

start in wine country and spend the days lazily winding down the Pacific Coast Highway, stopping at random beaches and local attractions as necessary.

If one must stay domestic, I would say either Hawaii or Alaska. Both places will seem far removed from the norm U.S. (Not that the "norm" US is bad, but if you want something completely different, Hawaii & Alaska is the way to go!)
    Cheers,
    Keith

You know what? Why don't we start in San Fran and take a trip down PCH? I think we both need it.

I'll figure out a way to convince the better half that it's for our mental health, and we'll take it from there icon_razz.gif

Washington DC for a few days, then travel down the MD/VA Eastern Shore, do some camping, end up in Virginia Beach for a couple days. The East Coast is beautiful in the Spring.

My next vacation, I'm going to Atlanta.
Never been, and I can't wait for the next 5 1/2 weeks to pass. Driving there too, so I can stop in DC and Charlotte.

I couldn't pick one single place or 'ideal' 6 day vacation.

3 days in Santa Fe to for the beauty of the high desert. Then 3 days in Provincetown for the Cape Cod seashore, lobsters, and some of the nation's best eye candy.

Start in DC, see the sights, shop, boy watch in Dupont Circle, go running with the DC Frontrunners on Saturday, stroll through Georgetown, take in some Smithsonian locations, enjoy the nightlife. Then take the train up to NYC and spend a coupe of days there.

jprichva saidStart in Buffalo, then make your way through Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, and Allentown, then across central Pennsylvania to Pittsburgh, followed by Akron, Ohio, Cleveland, Toledo, then north to Detroit.

It's the 6-day "Decayed Cities of the Rust Belt" tour. Fun!

HAHAHA! I started reading that and once I got to Allentown was just like "WTF? Who in their right mind would want to go to those three towns?"

As for me, the Southwestern US is one of the regions I haven't been to yet, so I would say I'd probably go and spend some time in a couple of the national parks down there - probably start with Grand Canyon and move up towards Glen Canyon and Canyonlands, although I don't know if 6 days would really be enough...
