In the news this morning Gov Patterson is pushing for a Gay marriage bill but he knows it will be an uphill battle. There should be enough votes in the assembly but not in the state senate.

    Time to start calling.

Well, it's a nice gesture, but it will never pass the Senate. So, I don't see the point. They'd be better off sending it through the courts.

Malcolm Smith says he doesn't want to bring the bill to the Senate until there are enough votes secured. He doesn't want it to be a simple symbolic gesture, but something that will actually pass. However, I hear there are enough republican senators who support the bill, so it could actually get passed. At the moment, we're waiting for Mr. Smith. Let's see what's happening.

This is news to me. All I hear is about the state's serious budget problems and the problems of paying for health care. I was totally unaware that a gay marriage bill was introduced. I guess politicians in Albany are tired of talking about budgets and taxes so the topic of gay marriage is a different type of issue. Hopefully both the assembly and the senate will pass this bill and get it done and over with. But there will be primitive minded, whiny conservatives that will try to drag out the legislative process and the bill will end up tossed off the agenda. What else is new in the most fucked up, dysfunctional state in the union.
