    Okay, the idea here is to post quotes that make you think differently about the world.

    They can be funny, inspiring, observational, anything thought-provoking.

    I'm a quote junkie, so I'm interested to see what people come up with.

    "Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony."
    - Gandhi

    "Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one."
    - Albert Einstein

    "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
    - Margaret Mead

    "During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act."
    - George Orwell

    "I want freedom for the full expression of my personality."
    - Gandhi

    "Power is not a means, it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes a revolution in order to establish a dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power."
    - Orwell

    "I thoroughly disapprove of duels. If a man should challenge me, I would take him kindly and forgivingly by the hand and lead him to a quiet place and kill him."
    - Mark Twain

    "Whenever you find that you are on the side of the majority, it is time to reform."
    - Mark Twain

    "Political language... is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind. "
    - Orwell

    "When I despair, I remember that all through history the ways of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants, and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it--always."
    - Gandhi

    "War against a foreign country only happens when the moneyed classes think they are going to profit from it."
    - Orwell

    "War is a way of shattering to pieces, or pouring into the stratosphere, or sinking in the depths of the sea, materials which might otherwise be used to make the masses too comfortable, and hence, in the long run, too intelligent"
    - Orwell

    "You must be the change you want to see in the world."
    - Gandhi

    --> yes, i clearly have my favourite quotable individuals...

    but now i want some new ones, so your turn!

    Oh, how very true it is. I'm adopting this as one of my favorites.

    MeOhMy, one of yours has been on my list for a very long time. I think I luvs ya for posting it:

    "During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act."
    - George Orwell

    It's more relevant today than ever before.

    To Have Succeeded

    To laugh often and love much:
    To win respect of intelligent people
    And the affection of children;
    To earn the approbation of honest critics
    And endure the betrayal of false friends;
    To appreciate beauty;
    To find the best in others;
    To give one's self;
    To leave the world a little better,
    Whether by a healthy child,
    A garden patch,
    Or redeemed social condition;
    To have played and laughed with enthusiasm
    And sung with exultation;
    To know even one life has breathed easier
    Because you have lived...
    This is to have succeeded.

    -Ralph Waldo Emerson

    One person with passion is better than forty people merely interested.
    — E. M. Forster

    The trouble with life is there's no background music.

    Computer games don't affect kids, I mean if Pac Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive music. ~Marcus Brigstocke

    Life is a sexually transmitted disease. ~R. D. Laing

    Does it really matter what these affectionate people do-- so long as they don’t do it in the streets and frighten the horses! ~Mrs. Patrick Campbell

    Great topic!

    I don't know who said a lot of these.

    "Do not become the centipede who asks which leg goes first"

    "Since the universe is curved, there cannot be any truly straight answers"

    "All answers are replies, not all replies are answers."

    "Nothing decent has been done by committee since Stonehenge and the Pyramids."

    "Of course everything has already been said, but since no one was listening, we must begin again."

    "It never gets easy... it just gets difficult in different areas."

    "Everybody is wrong."

    "The 'I' reply, which should always be viewed with suspicion as any answer given will be self-serving and massively one-sided."

    "Trifles make perfection, and perfection is no trifle."

    "Sheep - They give so much, they ask so little."

    "Be hard on the problem and soft on the person. Even if the person is yourself."

    "You are more than you will ever know."

    "Take the cause out of a man and there is no cause for a man."

    "Some say that cats are sneaky, evil, and cruel. True, and they have other fine qualities as well."

    You droll thing.

    Sheesh. A simple transposition would've turned it into something much droller.

    But that was on TV. Thus the vulgarity, removes some of it's drollesque quality. It is however, 'snarkier.'

    I shall now be off to invent more wordery.
