I read whatever I can. While I get a lot of work in fashion magazines, I try to pitch features to anyone who accepts freelance submissions. I do my homework by leafing through dozens of magazines every month to see what editors are buying.

The only magazine I subscribe to is National Geographic.

I don't think I actually paid for these subscriptions:

GQ (gift? helpful for my 1x every 2 years clothing upgrade)

Texas Highways (gift from my realtor. good for planning road trips.)

    Austin Monthly (gift?)

Yankee (haha. gift from mom. i sometimes flip through when I am homesick.)

Genre (don't like most of the articles. they make me feel insecure about my music, undies, abs, etc.. guests read it though. think it came free with some donation I made.)

Bostonia (alumni mag. read some articles when i want to feel like a smarty pants.)

    Stormwater (for work)

    I'd rather have been given:
    Advocate
    Automobile
    Sports Illustrated
    Details
    A rugby mag.
An interesting music mag (i feel too old for Spin, but i used to love it.)
    Texas Parks and Wildlife
    Nat'l Geographic
    Saveur

Maybe I should pony up some cash for these.

Mostly I read online because I is poor.

    Subscriptionwise I get:

    ScienceNews (yay gift)!

Genre and Instinct (God knows why, they just started showing up and don't stop).

I did finally get XY to stop coming after calling them and telling them to kindly stop wasting paper to send it to me. I still don't know why they sent it to me in the first place.

Yeah...no idea why I started getting Genre either. Thought it was maybe from a donation but I don't even know what I may have donated to. Aids Services of Austin isn't hooked into the mags as far as I know.

Was it the porn site I trial-subscribed to in '06? Hmm.

I won a prize for my poster at a scientific contest 4 years ago.... namely a 1-year subscription to the Journal of Materials Chemistry. 4 years later and they won't quit sending them to my home in England! Damn them!

    For me:
    Science
    Nature
    The Economist
    Powerkite
    Kitesurf
Private Eye (the sort of magazine that would never happen in america)

Caslon, you're hired! I have a whole basement full of Bricks & boards bookshelves that are going to collapse in the slightest earthquake. I just hope I'm not down there at the time.

When I go the the book store, I often pick up

    Men's Health

    and sometimes an

    Advocate

if it looks interesting. I have a subscription to

    National Geographic

but that's really a Christmas gift from mom. And I got a free year's sebscription to

    Instinct

which I have to cancel because it's not worth the effort to get it to trash can.

But for all the reading I do for work, periodicals tend to stack up unread at home.

I don't read many mags or newspapers, but I have two that I read semi-regularly:
    New Yorker and Time.

I sometimes pick up a Playboy, Spin or Muscle and Fitness, but only because they're in the bathroom.
