Gay Marriage PSA's

I had somewhat of a moment of clarity last night as I was watching the NOM "Gathering Storm" and Funny or Die parody about the awareness of the real issues at hand. I think it is insane how much the truth and actual facts are distorted.

I think that someone needs to make an honest and serious PSA supporting Gay Marriage. It's funny how this all is occuring at the same time as the Miss USA mess. She clearly sounded like an idiot and uninformed, which leads me to believe that most Americans are probably the same way.

I cringe when I hear people talk about the religious aspects of what they think marriage is. Why can't we just get on TV and tell America that this movement has NOTHING to do with religion or what goes on in each invidividuals' home. Gay Marriage is only about the equal legal rights that our community is entitled to by the Constitution.

I think I can speak for most of us when I say that Gays and Lesbians don't give a damn about what you do in your home, so why does any need to worry about what we do in ours. I think its laughable that the NOM group really says in their video that the right for two men to marry will affect their household. INSANE.

So how about it. Who can we talk to about making this happen?

I have to say that the No On Prop 8 (and related) commercials we had here in CA were TOTAL FAILURES. One was so obscure, it was like a pretentious French movie. The only thing that was missing was a sobbing clown and a slow motion shot of doves flying away.

I think gay marriage PSA's need to be more direct. They need to be simple, and a little sensationalist in order for the average Joe Schmoe voter to understand the issue.

Well, I think the paradies (the funny or die one, the colbert one) are doing a very good job of making that NOM clip look ridiculous and stupid. I'm not sure if a serious PSA would be as effective.

Also, is that NOM ad even being distributed? It's on their website and youtube, but where else is it being shown? Churches or something probably, not during American Idol commercial breaks. I don't think that ad is swaying anyone's opinions, so I'm not sure it's worth countering. If you're going to their website to see that commercial, you're probably not even going to watch a pro gay ad. And if you do, you won't like it.

However, necessary or not, a PSA like you're talking about would be great to see. I'd vote for Ellen DeGeneres, because she's popular as hell with everyone, and she is in fact a married gay person. But I don't know if she'd be up for it.
