Why Andorrans live longer than everyone else

    Story Highlights

    • The average Andorran lives 85 years, longer than anywhere else on the planet

    • The tiny country is wedged in the mountains between France and Spain

    • Diet and nutrition seems to play a role in keeping Andorrans alive and healthy

    "Perhaps that's part of the secret of this tiny principality high up in the Pyrenees Mountains: that its quiet isolation has created a relatively stress-free life-style which has made them the world champions in the global longevity sweepstakes, at least according to the latest U.S. Census Department estimates. ..."

    "Meeting Andorrans from all walks of life, it soon becomes clear that the concept of living longer was not on everyone's mind, but the idea of living well and living healthy came up in nearly every conversation. ..."

    "But even in this land-locked little country, times are changing and the older generation worries that the slow invasion of fast food and the passivity of video games and the like, may have a negative impact on the life expectancy of the young. "

    OMG! That makes three of us! We need fourth if we're gonna get anything done.

    But can y'all name the genders? Thaan, chan, zhen and shen.

    aaaaaaaaaaand a little non-canonical cut and paste.......

    zhen This gender roughly corresponds to female, and is the gender of the Andorian who will carry the zygote to term.

    shen This gender also roughly corresponds to female and is where all Andorian life originates. Although the zhen carries the infant, the child begins as gametes from the shen.

    chan This gender roughly corresponds to male.

    thaan This gender also roughly corresponds to male.
    [edit] Reproductive process

    The gametes of each "male" gender contain one quarter of the number of chromosomes necessary to produce offspring. During the conception of an Andorian child, the thaan fertilizes a shen's egg with his gametes. The chan then also fertilizes the egg. This produces a fertilized egg that develops into a zygote. The shen will then transfer the zygote to the zhen's pouch, where it develops into an an embryo. The Andorian fetus is incubated and nourished to term in the zhen's pouch. The zhen does not contribute genetically to offspring.
    [edit] Name prefixes

    In some Andorian linguistic traditions, Andorians have name "prefixes" which indicate which of the four genders they belong to. The "prefixes" thus encountered are as follows.

    * Zhen - zh' (eg. Shathrissia zh'Cheen, Charivretha zh'Thane)
    * Shen - sh' (eg. Pava Ek'Noor sh'Aqabaa, Avaranthi sh'Rothress)
    * Chan - ch' (eg. Thirishar ch'Thane, Thanashal ch'Shonnas)
    * Thaan - th' (eg. Thelianaresth th'Vorothishria, Shelerib th'Zarath)

    [edit] Polite form of address

    Zha, Sha, Cha, Tha
    [edit] Bondmate

    zh'yi, sh'za, ch'te, th'se

    zhavey, shreya, charan, thavan
    [edit] Offspring

    zhei, shei, chei, thei

    ME TOO! I was excited until I read the actual OP. Caslon, you did this on purpose, didn't you?

    Your thread has officially been derailed, but all is not lost. Perhaps you have an appropriate cat pic that can get it back on track?

    Wait... what's this about androgyny? They are a race now? Isn't it spelled with an E as in Endor? This wouldn't actually have anything to do with androgynous Ewoks would it?

    Then I must be the only one who knew this was about Andorra. I've skied there at least twice. It is the only country with Catalan as its official language. Most inhabitants speak French, Spanish (Castilian) and Catalan.

    If you look at the list you will notice that all the countries listed near the top are wealthy countries with socialized medicine.

    This is the DVD I gave to my PT. If you ever get a chance to see it, do. It is great.

    Stress: Portrait of a Killer DVD

    Over the last three decades, science has been advancing our understanding of stress—how it impacts our bodies and how our social standing can make us more or less susceptible.

    From baboon troops on the plains of Africa, to neuroscience labs at Stanford University, scientists are revealing just how lethal stress can be. Research reveals that the impact of stress can be found deep within us, shrinking our brains, adding fat to our bellies, even unraveling our chromosomes.

    Yet understanding how stress works can help us figure out ways to combat it and how to live a life free of the tyranny of this contemporary plague. In Stress: Portrait of a Killer, scientific discoveries in the field and in the lab prove that stress is not a state of mind, but something measurable and dangerous.

    Yummy!icon_razz.gif I was looking for a hot Andorian thaan or chan to post, but all I could find were zhens and shens. Thanks Timber!

    Now would a shen have a bulge in her panties too? If a shen has to transfer the embryo after it's been fertilized by both the thaan and chan to the zhen, would it stand to reason she would have some sort of ovipositor or similar apparatus? icon_lol.gif
