So I have asked you all for travel advice before, and you have been most helpful. Thought I would pick your brains again...

I am trying to plan a very inexpensive trip for later this year...however, since I want to do some renovations on my house, I have to keep it very very cheap. I would like to go somewhere in the caribbean or mexico, ideally an all-inclusive resort. Does anyone have any tips on finding cheap packages that you can book in advance? (I am looking at mid-November). The idea of last minute travel plans is somewhat appealing to me, but I think I would start to freak out about a week beforehand, so something that is locked in well before the date would probably be best. Any and all recommendations are greatly appreciated icon_smile.gif

If you like to Snorkel or scuba dive, I would suggest the Turks and Caicos which is where I live right now.

Beaches has a MONSTER resort right next to my construction site and they just opened a new village with a huge water park and night club. Beaches is geared more towards families, so I don't know that you'd like it all that much, but they currently have some amazing deals (up to 60% off) running.

There's also a Club Med here which seems to be quite popular amongst the young single crowd. I'm pretty sure there are gay guys that go there too, but I've yet to meet any of them. The crowd that goes there is definitely a party crowd though. I've been there a couple nights for drinks and dancing and it's definitely a fun time. Not sure what their pricing is like, but I hear it's affordable.

I have used www.bookit.com and www.cheaptickets.com for mexico all inclusive deals. I am heading down to cancun next week for 5 nights with airfare at an all inclusive for $620 total. Most of those types of sites have very similar prices, but some have fees and others don't so make sure you go all the way thru the booking process just prior to providing credit card info to see what fees they will charge. could be the difference of 75 to 100 bucks.

Try the Atlantis all inclusive resort vacation at Puerto Vallarta. Here's the link for the web site:

Check out cheapcaribbean.com. They have amazingly cheap deals to lots of great resorts all over the Caribbean and Mexico. If you're looking for all-inclusive resorts, I highly recommend the Dreams and Secrets chains in Mexico (I think they have hotels in the DR too). Last year we got a deal at Dreams Tulum through cheapcaribbean and including airfare from Newark (which was more expensive than flying from JFK) it still only cost us about $150 per night per person. The food and drinks at Dreams were great and kept on coming - I highly recommend it. If you want an active night-life you might not want to go to Tulum since it's about an hour away from Cancun and VERY quiet, but Dreams and Secrets have resorts in Cancun proper and nearby.

Oh, also, if you're looking for something cheaper, they also have packages at much cheaper hotels, especially if you go at a not-so busy time like November. I think out trip to Tulum was right at Christmas time.

Personally - I'd consider staying home and saving for a better trip later on. I really mean this. I'd rather not go - than have to stay somewhere drab. I know some guys feel that a hotel is just a place to sleep - but not me. Where I stay, eat, swim, spend my week (or whatever time) colors my whole perception of the trip. I once had to stay in a dive on a trip - and I'd rather have not gone at all. But - that's just me - for whatever it's worth!
