She was a gem. I laughed so much at what she did.

That's sad. The Golden Girls remains one of my favorite shows, but she was also in Maude and many other productions on TV, at the movies, and on stage.

I remember the way she rolled her eyes with impatient disgust - what a scene stealer (in a good way!) or when she'd sometimes say, "God'll get you for that."

I shared this news with my partner a little while ago. We watch "The Golden Girls" almost daily. He was very upset.

I first saw Bea Arthur on "All in the Family" in 1971, and later in "Maude." But I didn't have time for Golden Girls because my Army career was so demanding by then, I watched little TV, plus I thought the show was for retirees.

It wasn't until the late '90s I'd visit certain gay bars where the tapes played all the time, and I learned to enjoy it. Now it's a regular for us, and I marvel at the brilliant writing, and the wonderful acting. There isn't much as good on TV today.

Bea Arthur wowed me in the '70's as Maude.

I had instant admiration when she guest starred on All In The Family, sat in Archie's beloved chair and flatly refused to give it up!

Remember thinking, "That lady has balls!".

watching golden girls with my grandma was our bonding time as a child, I still catch reruns of the show on both lifetime and oxygen, and always had a good laugh at her hitting rose with a newspaper, or her sarcastic responses and rude attitude. My favorite episode with Dorthy would have to be when Rose sets up her birthday party and she has to march around with the little kids wearing the birthday hat icon_smile.gif This is heartbreaking news, and I wish her family well.

I have a friend who lives in Hollywood...

and back then he knew them all.

    They loved the "boys"

Well, my friend would get together with 3 other buddies, they would go out on in the evening with all for of them at the same time.....
So here you would see these 4 older ladies with these 4 thirty year old well built men having fun out on the town.

He's told me they were really great ladies and not phony. And boy could they tell dirty jokes! ;)

I fell for her as Vera Charles

    I loved her as Maude

    I loved her as Dorothy

I even loved her as the common joke at recent Roasts

There aren't many die hard head-strong women to replace her "balls"

    It's sad!

Bea Arthur was just fantastic....awesome comedic timing, pure class and a legendary talent - and she could sing with that raspy voice. She left behind one of the best works on TV - Golden Girls - timeless. Thanks for making me laugh so damn hard - even when you were the butt of the joke!
