Anyone know anything about kombucha? I started drinking this stuff and I felt really good at first but later my heart started beating fast and I felt dizzy. I read a bit about it and reportedly some people have died from bad home made batches. I only buy this stuff at whole foods, so I guess it should be safe.

I really love mixing kombucha and pomegranate juice, its tastes like an alcohol mixer.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kombucha Make sure to look up the various links at the end of the page to confirm the information on wikipedia. From what I can see, it's safe as long as you brew it right and you don't let it get moldy.

I just had my first bottle of kombucha yesterday...original flavor....tasted like vinegar. I didnt have extreme reactions to it. But it has a tad of alcohol in it (<0.5%). But as a tea-totaler it was enough to give me a buzz...I wouldnt have driven a car while that buzz was on.

i kept it up for like 2 month. i try to stick to it as much as i can, but it upset my stomach so much that i just have to gave up. i use to feed my dog with the overgrown bacteria. maybe i grow it too strong, which was too much acid.
i also try it that's in the store. but it was totally flat, not very strong culture. then again, maybe that's the way it should be.

Caslon I am surprised you felt affected by the alcoholic content. I don't drink alcohol, but the kombucha has not effected me at all. I don't think atleast.

But mixing kombucha with pomegranate juice does taste like a delicious alcoholic beverage lol.

Yeah I feel pretty good when I have some, it seems to energize me perhaps even more than wheatgrass?

If you are ever in Russia try some Kvass. It is similar to kombucha but tastes infinitely more disgusting.

    Nastrovia!

I started drinking it about a year ago. I really like it. There are a lot of different flavors. Yes, it can be a slightly acquired taste due to the fermented taste to it. The more you read about it the more health benefits you find. The probiotics in it are great for you. Yogurt doesn't have the same bacteria in it. The next closest thing is Kefir which is similar to a yogurt drink, but with all the good probiotics in it.

Kombucha is sooo good! My friend Sarah makes the most awesome kombucha. I actually prefer a Mexican drink that is very similar called tepache. It's slightly fermented pineapple juice and honey, same process as kombucha- MUY DELICIOSO! Tepache makes me feel all chingon-way!

I have yet to try pulque.
